Tüpraş Wins "Energy Efficiency" Award

Tüpraş Izmir Refinery has been awarded first place in the "Large-Scale Facility" category at the Energy Efficiency Awards organized by Istanbul Chamber of Industry (İSO). Through the project, Tüpraş achieved energy savings equivalent to the annual natural gas consumption of 39,000 households in one year. Tüpraş continues to be recognized for its work in energy efficiency. Tüpraş Izmir Refinery secured first place in the "Large-Scale Facility" category at the Energy Efficiency Awards organized by Istanbul Chamber of Industry (İSO) with its U-7000 Crude Oil Revamp Project. Arda Yıldırım, Refinery Manager at Tüpraş Izmir, received the award from Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Dönmez and İSO Board Chairman Erdal Bahçıvan. Arda Yıldırım, Refinery Manager at Tüpraş Izmir, stated that as Tüpraş they work with the objective of reducing energy intensity at refineries and lowering costs while minimizing environmental impact. "At the U-7000 Crude Oil Unit, which accounts for approximately 18 percent of crude oil processing capacity in Turkey and represents our country's highest capacity, we started our work four years ago with the aim of bringing efficiency, safety and reliability to higher levels. Following the 24-month renewal and modernization process, we not only increased the unit's sustainable capacity but also made its technology more reliable and efficient. With the project's commissioning, we reduced energy consumption of the U-7000 Crude Oil Unit by 34 Gcal/hour and achieved a 2 percent increase in unit efficiency," he said. With the project commissioned in April 2018, annual energy savings of approximately 300,000 Gcal were obtained. This corresponds to the annual natural gas consumption of 39,000 households. Additionally, the energy savings achieved prevented approximately 95,000 tons/year of CO₂ from being released into the atmosphere.
