BASF Begins Investment in Methanesulfonic Acid Production

BASF Takes Significant Step in Methane Sulphonic Acid Production BASF continues investment to increase its global capacity for methane sulphonic acid (MSA) to 50,000 tonnes per year, as announced at the end of 2018. BASF will undertake a new investment to build a new methane sulphonic acid plant at its Ludwigshafen site. The plant is scheduled to commence production at the end of 2021. Developing a New Production Process for Methane Sulphonic Acid Ralph Schweens, President of BASF Care Chemicals, said: "We want to best meet our customers' growing demand for high-quality, sustainable and high-performance technologies now and in the future. To achieve this, we continuously invest in expanding our capacities and production technologies. For this purpose, in mid-2019 we acquired an innovative process approach for MSA production from Grillo-Werke AG to strengthen our own research and development activities and accelerate the development of a new production process for methane sulphonic acid. In doing so, we support the growth of our customers worldwide as a reliable partner."
