Saint-Gobain Provides Clean Water Support to Antakya

 

Within the scope of the "Container Type Drinking Water Treatment System" project, realized with the contributions of Saint-Gobain Turkey brands Weber, Abrasives and Chryso, two drinking water treatment systems installed in Atatürk and Sevgi parks in Antakya produce 20 tons of clean water daily. These systems, each with a capacity to treat 3 tons of water per hour, aim to meet the clean water needs of the region's population.

 

Saint-Gobain, a global leader in sustainable and lightweight construction solutions, continues its support in the region on the second anniversary of the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquake, described as a disaster of the century. Through the "Container Type Drinking Water Treatment System" project implemented in Antakya in cooperation with Hatay Metropolitan Municipality, important steps have been taken to facilitate citizens' access to clean water.

 

Saint-Gobain, in cooperation with Hatay Municipality, installed two drinking water treatment systems in Atatürk and Sevgi parks in Antakya and put them into service for the region's population. These systems, each capable of producing 3 tons of drinking water per hour, have a total daily clean water production capacity of 20 tons. Realized with the contributions of Saint-Gobain Turkey brands Weber, Abrasives and Chryso, and fixed in the central regions of Antakya, these systems play an important role in meeting the population's clean water needs.

 

Under the project scope, water drawn from artesian wells located in the parks is stored in 3-ton capacity tanks following disinfection. While a float system ensures uninterrupted water supply, citizens can easily access clean drinking water from fountains installed in park areas. The project implemented by Saint-Gobain not only provides the Antakya population with access to clean water, but also makes an important contribution to the post-earthquake reconstruction process. This sustainability-focused initiative continues to add value to society by offering an innovative approach to addressing infrastructure gaps in the region.

 

In the project, modern filtration and treatment technologies were employed to bring water quality to the highest level. A multimedia sand filter system is used to enhance water clarity and filter particles, while a cartridge filter system is used to remove suspended solids and turbidity parameters down to 5 microns. Additionally, the system is equipped with an automatic activated carbon unit that removes organic matter, chlorine, taste and odor, and ultraviolet disinfection technology renders microorganisms inactive. Water purified at a rate of 98-99 percent through reverse osmosis is made ready for use, while the Autoflush system prevents membrane clogging and ensures long-term operation.
