Year-End Cement Exports Target Set at USD 1.7 Billion
Abdulhamit Akçay, Deputy Chair of the ÇCSİB Board of Directors, highlighted Turkey's position and importance in the global cement sector, stating that cement exports for the end of 2022 are targeted at USD 1.7 billion, a 30 percent increase from the previous year.
INTERCEM Istanbul, one of the cement sector's largest gatherings, commenced as a cement industry conference. The event, hosted by the Cement, Glass, Ceramics and Clay Products Exporters Association (ÇCSİB), attracted 500 participants from over 60 countries.
The opening speech was delivered by ÇCSİB Board Deputy Chair Abdulhamit Akçay, with expert guests and sector representatives from the national and international arena also serving as speakers.
At the conference sessions organized within the scope of the event attended by approximately 500 people from over 60 countries, recent developments in the cement sector, the impact of COVID-19 and geopolitical developments on the sector, carbon emissions and market trends were among the topics discussed.
Turkey Contributing to Global Sector Growth
Highlighting Turkey's position and importance in the global cement sector, ÇCSİB Board Deputy Chair Abdulhamit Akçay continued as follows: "Our country, positioned at the intersection of three continents, creates a hub for the global cement market and, through its production capacity, sustainable products and service quality, product range, logistics infrastructure, export experience, and commitment to human resources and the environment, contributes to the sector's growth on a global scale."Year-End Cement Export Target of USD 1.7 Billion
Akçay also delivered a presentation titled "Turkish Cement Sector - Present and Future" at the conference. Presenting Turkey's position in cement and clinker production worldwide through graphics, Akçay noted that 56 integrated plants and 21 grinding mills operate across the country. Akçay stated that Turkey's total cement sector exports increased by 30 percent in the January-August period compared to the same period of the previous year, and announced that the year-end cement export target is USD 1.7 billion, representing a 30 percent increase from the previous year. Noting that awareness in digitalization and green transformation within the cement sector is high, Akçay pointed out that artificial intelligence is increasingly being used in many processes, particularly quality management, and that in green transformation, efficiency initiatives and renewable energy investments are being undertaken. At INTERCEM, where ÇCSİB continues its international activities in the cement sector, promotional activities are being carried out at booths set up in the foyer area, in addition to conferences. Sector representatives exchange views on market developments, new trends and products, while continuing discussions for potential collaborations.
