Sika Türkiye General Manager Turgay Özkun shares his views on earthquake safety

Sika, a major player in the construction chemicals sector, is raising public awareness through videos prepared with earthquake experts. In the final video of the project, Sika featured the views of Sika Turkey General Manager Turgay Özkun. Sika has been publishing the prepared videos on its social media accounts since March, featuring the views of numerous experts in the videos. In videos published in March, the earthquake-related views of Earthquake Strengthening Association Board Chairman Sinan Türkkan, Istanbul Technical University Department of Civil Engineering Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Beyza Taşkın, Middle East Technical University Department of Civil Engineering Faculty Member Prof. Erdem Canbay, and Istanbul Technical University Department of Civil Engineering Faculty Member Prof. Alper İlki were included. In the final video of the project, Sika featured the views of Sika Turkey General Manager Turgay Özkun.

Emphasized the importance of strengthening at-risk structures

Sika General Manager Turgay Özkun, stressing that strengthening is very important for at-risk buildings, stated: "Earthquakes are a reality for our country, and geographically we live in an area with active fault lines. For structures identified as at-risk within the existing building stock, strengthening is a very important alternative both in terms of proper resource management and economic viability, as well as from a time perspective."

Applications must be carried out with authorized experts

Emphasizing that strengthening requires expertise, Özkun stated: "We are also conducting awareness-raising activities on this subject. We are providing training for contractors, those preparing specifications, and industry professionals on the correct products, correct timing, and correct application of these products. Structural strengthening is not a routine application; it requires serious application knowledge. Prior to implementation, a strengthening project must be developed with authorized experts on the subject, and applications must be carried out by authorized specialist contractors adhering to this project."
