Sika to Establish Technology Center
Sika has commissioned new production lines for concrete admixture Sigunit® at its Kirchberg facility in Berne Canton. This move represents a significant investment aimed at expanding the company's production capacity for the domestic market.
Sprayed concrete accelerator is primarily used in tunnel driving and excavation stabilization. Thanks to the new technology now being manufactured in Switzerland, large infrastructure projects such as the second Gotthard highway tunnel and major tunnel projects in neighboring countries will be supplied with the product more efficiently. High-performance technology and shorter transport routes will reduce CO2 emissions and contribute to more sustainable delivery of construction projects.
Numerous railway and highway tunnel projects are being constructed in Switzerland and in neighboring Germany and Austria. The planners and developers behind these critical infrastructure expansions rely on Sika's extensive experience and proven state-of-the-art technologies.
Liquid accelerator Sigunit® for sprayed concrete meets the most demanding requirements in tunnel driving applications. In addition to short application times and rapid strength development, the technology is characterized by high reliability and durability. The new production lines in Kirchberg increase operational efficiency and ensure sustainable delivery through shorter transport routes.
EMEA Regional Director Christoph Ganz commented on the matter as follows: "With additional production capacity in Switzerland, we are creating a framework that will help us better serve major infrastructure projects throughout the Alpine region.
With our high-performance products, we not only contribute to the realization of demanding highway and railway tunnel projects, but through the durability and sustainability of our solutions, we also make a significant contribution to greater environmental responsibility, particularly in tunneling and in the construction sector in general."
