Achieving Perfect Coating Through Spray Pattern Control

From Spray Pattern to Perfect Coating SprayVision material savings, quality improvements, fewer rejected parts - digitalization of coating processes and consistent control of spray patterns enable early detection and correction of coating defects, avoiding negative impacts. SprayVision is a technology for digitalization of coating processes and consists of a combination of hardware and software. This technology enables users to better understand the performance of coating lines and optimize parameters based on collected data. The system can be used with all types of paint and is easily applicable in robotic painting systems. Before starting a production batch, SprayVision can be used to check whether the results at the end of the production line comply with the required quality standards. The process control function compares the captured spray pattern with the standard production pattern and issues a warning if there is any deviation in the size, shape or volume of applied paint. The user is then given a recommendation to check specific parts of the application equipment.
Optimization of Coating Parameters
The system provides a clear overview of applied paint volume, paint distribution and coating thickness profile, thus enabling the user to make an objective decision on which pressure, paint flow and robot speed combination should be used. All measurements can be performed during the wet phase without needing to wait for the paint to dry. As a result, transfer efficiency can be increased by more than 10%. After the optimum spray configuration is determined with maximum transfer efficiency and good paint distribution, the optimum pitch distance (SB 50) for trajectories can be obtained from the dynamic model. Based on this, the software quickly and easily creates an initial robot program. Both in implementing new projects and in daily production, paint thickness on components is one of the most important factors directly related to quality. SprayVision can provide information about paint thickness distribution within just a few minutes after spraying. This makes it possible to analyze the entire surface and verify overlapping trajectories even on very complex parts such as bumpers.
Analysis of Every Droplet
Coating equipment manufacturers, paint manufacturers or contract painters can use SprayVision to analyze the coating down to the droplet level. The technology provides information about the number, size and volume of every droplet up to 10 × 10 cm in a selected area.
