OCI and Prefere Resins Partner to Accelerate Decarbonization Process

OCI and Prefere Resins are contributing to the decarbonization process through a partnership that offers a low-carbon alternative to conventional melamine, produced from biogas.
OCI and Prefere Resins are contributing to decarbonization through their partnership by offering a low-carbon alternative produced from biogas to replace conventional melamine.
OCI and Prefere Resins are collaborating to support the chemical industry's decarbonization by substituting conventional natural-gas-based melamine with MelaminebyOCI™ Novo, a low-carbon, ISCC PLUS certified product manufactured from biogas. This innovative material can be used in resin production for coatings, paper, textiles and laminates, offering a more sustainable alternative for a wide range of end-segment applications.
Melamine is a key component in many everyday products valued for its strength, durability and versatility. By bringing a verified low-carbon melamine to market, OCI and Prefere Resins are taking an important step toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting more sustainable production across the value chain.
OCI's ISCC PLUS certification verifies that renewable raw materials are responsibly sourced and used throughout the product's lifecycle, and supports claims of reduced carbon emissions. MelaminebyOCI™ Novo will enable manufacturers to offer more sustainable solutions without sacrificing the known high quality and performance of melamine-based products.
Bart Pescio, Director Commercial Nitrogen Europe at OCI, explained: "This partnership represents another turning point in our journey to decarbonize value chains across industries. By combining OCI's expertise in low-carbon production with Prefere Resins' technical knowledge of applications, we are bringing certified, low-carbon materials to market today, creating immediate and tangible benefits for our customers and the environment."
Christian Remus, General Manager of Prefere Melamines, added: "As the Prefere Resins group, we are strongly committed to the compliance, innovation and sustainability contributions of our products. Strong partnerships in our supply chain, particularly in key raw materials, are essential to achieving these goals. We are grateful to work closely with suppliers such as OCI who share our values, enabling us to help our customers pursue and achieve their own sustainability targets. We can only reach our goals together."
Together, OCI and Prefere Resins are setting a new standard for low-carbon innovation in the chemical industry by combining technical excellence with shared commitment to a more sustainable future.
