Marshall Names Its 2021 Color of the Year: "Bold Earth"
After extensive research, Marshall's color design team has selected "Daring Earth" as the color of 2021.
For inspirational paint color palettes for the home, Marshall monitors significant global trends. In 2020, a year of disruption in the modern world, it brings the back-to-nature trend into homes.
"Daring Earth," chosen by AkzoNobel as Color of the Year 2021, was determined following comprehensive trend research conducted by both AkzoNobel and experts from around the world.
"Daring Earth" reflects the solidarity of communities, the generosity of nature, and the pleasure of achieving extraordinary things together. At a time when people have retreated to their homes to reinvent themselves, Marshall defines homes as a garden of nature. The company positions Daring Earth as a tone entirely about balance, stability, and potential, and views 2021 as a year of harmony with nature and returning to one's essence. Heleen Van Gent, who made significant contributions to the color of the year research, leads the color of the year research team at Amsterdam Global Aesthetic Center. Van Gent noted that in creating "Daring Earth," they drew on all the accumulated knowledge from supporting 80 different markets worldwide to help each market's consumers and customers select colors with complete confidence. Van Gent stated: "We conduct rigorous research and trend monitoring to ensure our new color palettes are right for the future; we learn a range of social, cultural, and design perspectives from highly regarded international design experts. Our color team then uses this information to help determine the Color of the Year and create four complementary and inspirational palettes around it. ColourFutures™ sits at the heart of the work of the Global Aesthetic Center. This allows us to tell the story behind this year's colors and keep our color expertise at the highest level, while also creating value to help people at every stage of their decoration journey. Our videos, articles, and inspirational visuals are designed to give people the confidence to transform their surroundings using the Color of the Year and complementary tones," she said. The "Daring Earth" color is interpreted with a different concept in each of Marshall's four color palettes.
The Life Palette consists of reds and tones, encouraging people toward being themselves and calling people to act for what they believe in. This palette was created based on the view that people empower themselves. The Balance Palette uses earth tones of trust colors—clay, peat, chalk, mud—reminding us that we come from all over the world and expressing the philosophy that these tones reflect all of us. Composed of all-time favorite colors, the Time Palette challenges today to paint a bright future. Warm and harmonious, these tones inspire openness and connection. The inspirational yellow tones and ochres found in the palette create a balance with the natural and Daring Earth. Finally, the Nature Palette brings a calm atmosphere to rooms with deep blues and greens, reflecting the sea and sky tones of the natural world. For homes and especially decorative paints, the four related color palettes address people's specific emotional needs and allow consumers to express themselves through color.
