We had a pleasant interview with Özdemir Karanfil, Founder and General Manager of KPM Mühendislik.Karanfil provided detailed information about the products and services offered by KPM Mühendislik.

Could you briefly tell our readers about yourself, your education and professional background?

I was born in Hatay on 28 July 1976. I completed my primary, secondary and high school education in Ankara. In 1999, I graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Erciyes University. I held management positions at leading companies in the mechanical installation and industrial facility establishment sectors.

Could you provide information about the establishment process of KPM Mühendislik and its current structure?

Following many years of experience in engineering, mechanical installation, manufacturing and industrial facility establishment, we founded KPM Mühendislik Makine İnşaat San. ve Tic. Ltd. Şti. in 2011. Since the day we established our company, we have carried out numerous industrial facility installations and process machinery manufacturing both domestically and internationally. At our facility in Gebze with 1,000 m² of indoor space and 2,000 m² of outdoor space, we move forward with steady steps, never compromising on quality, and in doing so we take justified pride in being among the sought-after companies in the sector.

What sectors does KPM Mühendislik mainly serve, and what types of products does it supply? Could you provide information about KPM Mühendislik's products, brands and services?

Our company serves sectors including paints and coating raw materials, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food, mineral oils and construction chemicals, and manufactures reactors, mixers, blenders, distillation columns, shell-and-tube heat exchangers, dissolvers, dispersers, column mixers, pilot production units, silos, storage tanks, mobile kettles, bag filters, autoclaves, filling machines and many other products, followed by on-site assembly and bringing them to production capacity. Our objective is for our customers to use the products we manufacture under the registered KPM brand without any problems for many years. In line with this principle, we use first-class certified materials and produce with certified welders who are experts in their field. To customers requesting facility establishment, we provide design, consulting, machinery manufacturing, steel construction, assembly, piping, electrical and automation systems installation and commissioning services based on the knowledge and experience we have acquired over many years. Among the services we provide are turnkey paint production facilities, alkyd resin production facilities, polyester production facilities, thinner production facilities, varnish production facilities, antifreeze production facilities, mineral oil and grease production facilities, PVA production facilities, styrene acrylic polymer production facilities and textile and construction chemicals production facilities.

Could you tell us about your domestic and international sales activities? What types of products do you primarily sell to which regions domestically and internationally?

Domestically, we serve almost every region, particularly in provinces with intensive industry and industrial facilities. Internationally, we currently export to countries such as Russia, Tatarstan, Georgia and Azerbaijan, which account for approximately 40% of our turnover. We are continuing our efforts to further increase our export volume with great determination.

What kind of work does KPM Mühendislik conduct in the areas of innovation and R&D? Do you have any projects developed within the scope of university-industry cooperation, and if so, what are they?

Our company, which closely follows the technology developing and advancing every day worldwide, is constantly improving itself and adding new and technological machines to our machinery park. To catch zero defects in the welding of the machines we produce, we added a column-boom welding automation system operating with a fully automatic system to our machinery park. In this way, we provide our customers with high-quality welded machines. By combining the theoretical knowledge we received from our professor advisors in chemistry and mechanical engineering faculties with our experience, we aim to provide our customers with professional designs and produce long-lasting machines that operate with high efficiency. In this direction, our effort is to provide higher quality products at more competitive prices than our competitors in the sector.

Could you provide information about KPM Mühendislik's environmental policy and sustainability approach? What can you say about your efforts regarding worker health and safety?

As KPM Mühendislik, we are aware of our responsibility to the environment and society in which we operate. In the production stages at our facility, we work in accordance with environmentally friendly principles. Our company fulfills all requirements of Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6331, and we have an occupational physician and an occupational safety specialist. All our personnel are provided with necessary personal protective equipment, and our operations are conducted with an occupational health and safety awareness.

What criteria are prioritized when KPM Mühendislik formulates investment plans? Does KPM Mühendislik have investment plans for the coming periods, and if so, what are they?

When formulating our investment plans, our basic criteria are quality, ensuring customer satisfaction and facilitating operations. Our investment plan for the coming periods is to continue on our path within the organized industrial zone with 10,000 m² of indoor space, greater capacity, higher export volume and by expanding our customer portfolio. In this way, we believe we will contribute to our country's industry and economy and, by creating employment, become a source of income for more people.
