INX International Invests in DetraPel
DetraPel, advanced materials company producing sustainable coatings, announced completion of a USD 7.6 million Series A funding round led by Material Impact.
Other investors in this round include billion-dollar packaging ink manufacturer INX International, as well as Touchdown Ventures, FitzGate Ventures, Boro Capital, Icebook Investments and others. The newly raised funds will enable DetraPel to enhance market traction for Impermea Materials, the company's recently rebranded industrial division.
DetraPel also rebranded its consumer operations as ProofPlus. Capital has been allocated to expand the scope of commercial coatings production to meet customer demand. The company's current industrial customers include four of the world's largest paper suppliers and leading packaged consumer products companies in the sector, aiming to offer first-class and environmentally friendly packaging options to increasingly environmentally conscious customer bases.
Impermea Materials, through its proprietary protective coatings produced from PFAS- and fluorine-free, bio-based chemicals, delivers better-performing products for daily use across various sectors including paper and cardboard packaging, textiles, healthcare and others. Barrier coatings produced at scale address challenges businesses face with product performance while addressing environmental concerns by maintaining recyclability, water solubility and compostability. Recent legislation banning PFAS or "forever chemicals" in industrial production processes has increased interest in alternative chemicals such as those used by Impermea to deliver PFAS performance without harmful effects on the environment and human health.
Shane Bertsch, Senior Vice President of Strategic Planning and Innovation at INX, said: "INX and Impermea Materials serve paper and cardboard packaging markets with their commitment to sustainable solutions. We view Impermea's product offering as highly complementary and are excited to partner with DetraPel to accelerate the market introduction of sustainable barrier coating solutions."
Impermea's protective coatings provide textiles with liquid repellency, stain resistance, UV fade prevention and flame-retardant capabilities. In food packaging, Impermea's barrier coatings deliver best-in-class grease and oil resistance, address moisture sensitivity, provide migration properties and withstand temperature fluctuations, enabling companies to transition to plastic-free options without compromise. Impermea also offers coatings providing viral protection with antimicrobial coatings in the healthcare sector.
