Holcim Launches New Solar Energy Project Holcim US announced a landmark clean energy investment in northeastern Michigan through its partnership with NorthStar Clean Energy, bringing the company's largest solar energy project in the Midwest to its cement plant in Alpena. Combined with existing renewable energy initiatives, the solar energy project will enable the facility to generate 75% of its electricity requirements from renewable energy sources. The project represents a significant step toward Holcim's commitment to operate all US facilities with 100% renewable energy by 2030. Holcim Vice President of Procurement Atl Martinez stated, "The solar energy project on Holcim's 100-acre site in Alpena exemplifies another powerful example of the investment we are eager to make to rapidly address sustainability. Through new initiatives we are launching across the United States, Holcim's momentum to transform our operations, reduce our carbon footprint and achieve net zero has never been greater." NorthStar Clean Energy will implement the solar energy solution, which is expected to reduce the facility's CO2 emissions by approximately 25,000 tons annually and generate more than 30% of current energy demand. Holcim is expected to receive approximately 35,000 MWh of clean energy annually from the project under a Solar Energy Equipment Service Agreement with a term of at least 20 years. Source
