Greentown Labs to Collaborate with Holcim
Holcim signs partnership with Greentown Labs, North America's largest climate technology start-up incubator, to accelerate open innovation for decarbonizing the built environment.
The premier "Terawatt" partnership with Greentown, which operates incubation centers in Somerville, Mass. and Houston, Texas, gives Holcim first-class access to promising start-ups focused on innovative and sustainable building solutions.
This positions Holcim to be among the early adopters of the newest technologies for decarbonizing buildings. The company will participate in targeted interactions with innovative start-ups and attend dedicated construction sector pitch days. Holcim is also joining the Greentown Industry Leadership Council, which provides strategic guidance to Greentown, including accelerating time-to-market for technologies.
Nollaig Forrest, Chief Sustainability Officer at Holcim, stated: "Through our open innovation ecosystem, we partner with hundreds of start-ups globally to accelerate the transition to sustainable buildings. By partnering with Greentown Labs, we aim to empower the best and brightest ventures operating in the built environment to multiply their impact.
The combination of our venture capital program Holcim MAQER Ventures with Greentown's stellar roster of successful climate technology ventures will serve as a catalyst for reimagining how the world builds for a renewable future."
Kevin Knobloch, CEO of Greentown Labs: "Greentown Labs is excited to partner with Holcim, a global leader in sustainable building solutions for decarbonizing the built environment, to support the latest climate technology innovations in this critical sector. We look forward to engaging with our building technology start-ups as Holcim shares its unique expertise in low-carbon building innovation and helps our entrepreneurs develop their solutions."
Greentown accelerates climate solutions by providing climate technology start-ups with the resources, knowledge, connections, and equipment they need to scale. Operating two incubation centers, laboratory space, co-working areas, machine shops, electronics laboratories, tool shops, software and business resources, and an extensive stakeholder network, Greentown hosts more than 200 start-ups and has supported over 525 start-ups since its founding in 2011.
Holcim's open innovation ecosystem encompasses hundreds of start-ups it partners with through its corporate venture capital program MAQER Ventures. Holcim's innovative solutions, which pursue advanced research in 15 areas from ultra-high performance concrete to 3D printing, span the entire lifecycle of the built environment. These solutions range from low-carbon ECOPact concrete and ECOPlanet cement to advanced roofing, insulation, and facade systems that make buildings more sustainable in use.
