Energy Savings Possible with Quality Thermal Insulation

Energy Savings Through Quality Thermal Insulation European countries are preparing to pass the approaching winter months with minimal economic and energy damage due to deepening energy crisis, implementing conservation measures. Approximately 40 percent of Turkey's energy consumption is used for heating residential buildings. The path to greater warmth while using less energy lies in quality and effective thermal insulation. Fethi Hinginar, Chairman of Turkish Ytong, stated that the energy crisis due to approaching winter months is the most important item on the agenda in European countries. He continued his remarks as follows: "Despite their high-capacity nuclear and renewable energy sources, European countries are being dragged toward a major energy crisis. All European countries are making intensive efforts to implement measures that will provide both economic and energy savings."

Best measure is thermal insulation

Fethi Hinginar, noting that Turkish Ytong has been developing products that provide energy efficiency and energy savings for years, stated: "The best solution for rising energy bills is quality and effective thermal insulation. All structures that are not heated or cooled efficiently cause us to experience major economic losses. As a country dependent on energy imports, we must use energy efficiently and develop conservation opportunities to reduce our annual energy imports of USD 50 billion."

Europe's toughest test

Fethi Hinginar conveyed that European countries will face one of the most important tests in their history during the approaching winter months, and after the measures taken, life will not be the same as before, with a Europe emerging where energy consumption awareness has risen to the highest level. "While France is planning to reduce electric train services, Germany is limiting signage and building lighting. In Italy, restaurants are turning off their lights and lighting candles, and various steel mills in different countries are closing. Conservation measures are expected to give way to even more radical measures during winter months. This winter will be a long, difficult winter for the European continent."

Recalling that the European Union has taken important steps for years in reducing energy consumption in buildings, Hinginar stated the following on the subject:

"The EU Commission has long set targets for reducing energy consumption especially in buildings and implemented them with certain slogans. First with the 20-20-20 slogan (20 percent reduction in energy consumption by 2020) it modified building regulations (EPBD) to bring energy consumption in buildings to near-zero levels, in 2020 with the 20-30-30 slogan to reduce by 30 percent by 2030, and with 20-50-50 to achieve zero-energy buildings by 2050 and finally based on all these it legislated the "Zero Carbon" goal through the Green Deal law. This effort will have positive reflections in the energy crisis."  

We have the capability to heat our homes with near-zero energy

Noting that Turkey should also turn more toward measures to reduce energy consumption in buildings, Hinginar stated: "In our country, we consume more than 40 percent of energy use in residential buildings. Urbanization and construction speed, high temperatures resulting from climate change and increasing cold periods mean that energy needs during both summer and winter months continue to rise. Turkey has the capability to heat our homes with near-zero energy. In order to use energy and the resources we spend on it efficiently, we must construct better-insulated buildings and improve the insulation of our existing structures."  

USD 10 billion in savings in 59 years with Ytong

Fethi Hinginar stated: "As Turkish Ytong, we are working to provide energy savings through thermal insulation in buildings and to enable living in healthy spaces. With Ytong, self-insulating walls are installed, and with Multipor Thermal Insulation Boards, mineral non-combustible thermal insulation applications are carried out. All our products help prevent energy losses from heating in buildings, contributing to savings on natural gas and electricity bills. Thanks to thermal savings achieved with Ytong use, the foreign exchange savings obtained over 59 years has exceeded USD 10 billion," he said.
