Beeck Silicate Paints: Trend, Natural Stone, Historical Monuments

Beeck began production in 1894 when Ludwig Beeck made an investment in pure potassium silicate paints based on water glass. Since its founding, the development and production of potassium silicate-based mineral paints that form indissoluble bonds with substrates through active silification has been Beeck's mission. This production method, which has been successfully maintained for over 120 years and represents the state of the art, has today reached even higher levels in aesthetic and ecological terms. Once applied, this microporous mineral coating cannot be separated from the substrate and its benefits for both interior and exterior use are particularly important in the preservation of valuable works and in newly constructed buildings where scaffolding is difficult to install. The formulation, used for its incredible durability in preserving historical heritage and its striking colours in villa projects to enhance beauty, has remained essentially the same. The silica-oxygen bond that active silicate paints form with the substrate is too strong to be broken by UV rays from the sun. Additionally, since the colorants used are composed entirely of minerals, they do not fade in sunlight. Mineral colorants and silicate binders are never affected by the destructive effects of UV rays.

The value of ideal open-pore structure in building physics is very important. Through silification, it cannot be separated from the rendered surface; it does not form a high-tension, peelable crust that blocks vapour movement. These open pores provide a balanced, healthy living environment. High alkalinity (pH 11) provides resistance to mould and fungi. It meets the highest hygiene standards through an environment free of all types of solvents, plasticizers, protective chemicals and biocides. Beeck's variety of primers allows silicate-based paints to be used even on substrates with poor silification. In the restoration of registered historical monuments, the colours unique to each building add movement appropriate to the spirit of the time, and the distinctive ambience created by silicate paints in modern environments with their matte appearance is unparalleled. In other paints, the pigments that give colour are trapped within the resin; the resin wraps the pigment in a film, changing the original colour, whereas in silicate paints the colouring agents are in transparent silicate like water and reflect their own vibrant colours. They require very simple maintenance at long intervals, protect the surface they are applied to and preserve the building's value and cleanliness. Surfaces are not soiled only by accumulated matter; synthetic materials become charged with static electricity by wind and collect dirt on their surface. In heat, plastic coatings soften and become sticky. Beeck silicate paints are safe; they do not release harmful gases during fire. They are the only paint that can be safely used in shared spaces such as schools, dormitories, hospitals, government offices and tunnels.

The absence of any organic substances such as solvents, plasticizers, preservatives and fungicides in its composition means it places no burden on the environment, and the fact that no removal is required during maintenance makes silicate paints the most environmentally respectful paint.
