BATIÇİM Launches Low-Carbon Cement
Low-Carbon Cement from BATIÇİM
BATIÇİM focused on low-carbon emissions in production. BATIÇİM, one of the most valuable investments in Izmir and the Aegean Region, has achieved production of Turkey's first accredited TS EN 197-5 certified low-carbon emission CEM II/C cement. Through its operations encompassing 2 cement plants located in Izmir and Söke, 16 ready-mix concrete facilities, a hydroelectric power plant and port operations in Aliağa, the company creates lasting value for the national economy and aims to advance Turkey toward its low-carbon emission targets. Low-carbon cement production represents the first step in this process.
BATIÇİM Batı Anadolu Çimento Sanayi A.Ş. (BATIÇİM) made a strong start in 2022 with its new management. The initiatives launched at the end of the previous year, backed by its longstanding experience and innovation capability, have proven their worth. Through research and development and innovation activities conducted on cement, which forms the backbone of sectors such as transportation, construction and ports, the company has produced Turkey's first certified low-carbon emission cement. The company, which has left its BATIÇİM signature on a new turning point in the Turkish economy, produced cement under the name "Portland Composite Cement" CEM II/C in accordance with the TS EN 197-5 cement standard. For the first time in Turkey, the Quality and Environment Board issued a "G Conformity Certificate" under Turkish Accreditation Authority accreditation and authorization by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. This certification enables safe market use of low-carbon emission, more environmentally friendly cement in compliance with the Building Materials Regulation.

The use of recyclable alternative raw materials to reduce carbon emissions is partially covered in the currently applicable TS EN 197-1 Cement Standard. The TS EN 197-5 Cement Standard, which enables the production of cements that can be manufactured with lower carbon emissions, was approved by the European Standards Committee CEN on 8 February 2021 and published as available on 19 May 2021. TSE (Turkish Standards Institute) published this standard on 30 September 2021 under the number "TS EN 197-5" and the title "Cement - Part 5: Portland-composite cement CEM II/C-M and Composite cement CEM VI," thus enabling lower carbon emission cement production in the country as well.Advertisement
