AkzoNobel Launches New Powder Coating Series

AkzoNobel has launched Interpon W, a range of powder coating solutions that could change the way designers and manufacturers work with heat-sensitive surfaces (HSS) such as wood and plastics. The Interpon W powder coating range delivers benefits for sustainability alongside physical appeal. Interpon W is not a single product but a product range comprising Interpon W Core, Flex Pro, Fas and Fast Pro. The Interpon W powder coating range provides flawless, consistent and versatile protection even on the most demanding surfaces. The Interpon W series employs various innovations to achieve striking results. These include ultra-low baking technologies providing interior and exterior products with excellent chemical, scratch, liquid and heat resistance. Additionally, the Interpon W powder coating series incorporates a lower thermal curing process that offers greater weather resistance and gloss retention for more demanding applications. These innovations are used respectively for Interpon W Core and Interpon Flex Pro. The technology behind Interpon W Fast and Interpon W Fast Pro powder coatings is similarly innovative and leverages AkzoNobel's leadership capabilities in UV curing. UV curing systems combine the lowest curing temperature range (80°C-120°C) with the shortest curing time (2-5 minutes) to provide optimal efficiency.

Reducing costs

The product range enables materials such as MDF/HDF, plywood, OSB, natural wood, gypsum fiber cement and plastic composites to benefit from a volatile organic compound (VOC)-free powder coating. At the same time, material—up to 99 percent—is recyclable. Being a powder coating allows the surface to be coated simultaneously, enabling consistent edge coating and reduced rework time.
