Akkim Launches Low-Emission Special Additive Product Series

Akkim's Low-Emission Special Additives Series Akkim Kimya's Construction Chemicals products continue to add value to many sectors. Akkim Kimya R&D Construction and Textile Chemicals Manager Dr. Uğur Erşen Şenbil, noting that the company's Low-Emission Special Additives Series products (AKGRİN Low Carbon Series) enable energy and water savings while making it possible to produce low carbon dioxide emission cements, stated: "Reports indicate that cement industry accounts for 5-10 percent of global carbon dioxide emissions. Unfortunately, in our country this ratio exceeds 10 percent. Through our cement and concrete additives, we reduce clinker causing emissions in cement composition by increasing the use of mineral additives and through concrete design optimization, we reduce the amount of cement used and the required water quantity" he said. Pointing out that cement additives provide energy savings in the range of 3-10 kWh per ton of cement and concrete additives provide water savings between 5-30 percent depending on additive type, Şenbil noted, "At the same time we create significant cost advantages. Our cement additives enable more cement to be produced in the same timeframe with lower energy. Our concrete additives reduce the amount of water used in concrete production, increase the compressive strength of concrete, and with increased compressive strength, the amount of cement—the highest cost input of concrete—can be reduced to the extent required by technical specifications. Therefore, our chemical additives reduce the total cost significantly" he said.

  Akkim Kimya R&D Construction and Textile Chemicals Manager Dr. Uğur Erşen Şenbil, recalling that one of the most important targets announced by the European Union's European Green Deal is to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and that the cement sector is among those most affected by this target, emphasized that Akkim has conducted significant work in this area at its R&D center and developed the Low-Emission Cement Additives Series. Noting that with these efforts, the transition from high carbon dioxide emission-producing CEM I type cement production to lower-emission mineral-additive cements will be facilitated through chemical additives and the net zero carbon target will be approached, Şenbil stated that as an Akkim R&D Center, they share their work with everyone by publishing scientific articles on national and international platforms.
