Siemens Turkey Achieves EUR 400,000 in Savings Siemens Turkey's energy efficiency project at Starwood Forest Products facilities has achieved energy savings of up to 68 percent in production, annual cost savings exceeding EUR 400,000 and approximately 4,000 tons of carbon emissions reduction. Siemens Turkey, which supports its customers in reaching their targets through more sustainable methods and with fewer resources by preparing customized energy efficiency projects for every institution and organization in need, has added another achievement to its portfolio. Within this scope, Siemens Turkey implemented an energy efficiency project across 13 separate units at the Starwood İnegöl facility, which has the highest production capacity under one roof in Turkey's integrated wood sector, achieving energy savings of up to 68 percent in production. The project, which also launched work applied for the first time globally during the production phase, generated annual cost savings exceeding EUR 400,000 and approximately 4,000 tons of carbon emissions reduction.

Siemens Turkey Chairman and CEO Dr. Hüseyin Gelis, in his assessment of the cooperation, stated that Siemens Turkey is continuing its efforts with determination to achieve sustainability targets embedded in its DNA, and continued as follows: "As Siemens Turkey, we are working with all our strength with the goal of leaving a more livable world for future generations. Noting that they are very pleased to implement another exemplary project with Starwood Forest Products, with which they have successfully collaborated for many years, Gelis stated, "Sustainability at the core of this project is among our most important priorities. Just as in this energy efficiency project with Starwood, where we achieved efficiency beyond our targets, we will continue our work without slowing down with institutions and organizations in need," he said.

Noting that the innovative solutions provided by Siemens Turkey, on one hand enable more efficient use of resources while on the other hand improve companies' production processes and provide them with competitive advantage, Siemens Turkey Digital Industries General Manager Kerim Oal stated, "Through the projects we have implemented, our customers with significantly reduced energy consumption are able to achieve significant cost savings." Pointing out that work applied for the first time globally was carried out in 2 of the 13 projects implemented by Siemens Turkey at the Starwood İnegöl facility, Oal continued as follows: "Siemens Turkey is one of the Energy Efficiency Consulting companies licensed by the Renewable Energy General Directorate of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. Within the scope of this consultancy, we prepared VAP (Efficiency Enhancing Projects) for the projects and also participated in the incentive program. Thus, we enabled 30 percent of the investment made by Starwood Forest Products to be supported by the state."  

Starwood Forest Products CEO Hüseyin Yıldız spoke as follows about the project:

"As Starwood, we rank among Turkey's largest industrial companies. Since energy consumption resulting from our processes is extremely high, energy management is a subject we emphasize strongly. In line with our sustainable production targets, we chose to work with Siemens Turkey, with whom we have collaborated for many years and whose expertise in the sector we trust. As a result of this work, we implemented applications that are among the first in Turkey and even in the world. Through the projects we implemented, we achieved energy savings of up to 68 percent in our systems and significant reduction in our carbon dioxide emissions. Additionally, our facilities fully comply with the ISO 50001 Energy Management System standard requirements." Noting that one of the most critical issues at Starwood, where high-volume production takes place, is the coordination of shutdown planning and commissioning work, Starwood Project Manager Nuri Önlü stated, "This coordination was carried out very successfully by Siemens Turkey's expert teams, ensuring timely implementation of the project. In this direction, production process-focused automation and software applications; drive applications and applications for efficient motor conversion, which no other technology provider has globally, were successfully implemented. Our work was completed with 13 projects implemented, including one process improvement project applied to increase quality. Thanks to Siemens energy efficiency services, most of the projects were included in the Energy Ministry's VAP (Efficiency Enhancing Projects) incentive mechanism, and with an investment of EUR 530,000, we achieved approximately 7,140,000 kWh annual savings and EUR 403,000 in gains. Through the reduction of 3,947 tons of CO2 emissions equivalent to 12,642 trees, we created a significant environmental impact and contributed to our responsibility towards nature," he stated.
