Allianz Risk Barometer 2025 Results Announced

Allianz Commercial's annual Allianz Risk Barometer, which identifies the leading risks facing global business, has released its 2025 results.

Cyber events ranked first for the fourth consecutive year in global business risk rankings, with business interruption in second place. In Turkey, natural disasters rose to first place for the first time, while macroeconomic developments took second place. Fire and explosion risk, a new entry to the list, ranked third.

The 14th edition of the Allianz Risk Barometer, Allianz Commercial's annual global business risk survey, has been published. According to the Allianz Risk Barometer, prepared with input from 3,778 risk management professionals from 24 different sectors across 106 countries and regions, the biggest risk for companies globally in 2025 remains cyber events such as ransomware attacks, data breaches and IT disruptions, as in the previous year. Cyber events, which received 38% of votes, were followed in second place by business interruption at 31%.

Climate change, market fluctuations, competition and other market developments, new technologies, critical infrastructure disruptions and bankruptcy were among the risks showing the largest increases compared to the previous year. Climate change, rising two positions, moved from seventh to fifth place at 19%, market developments such as market fluctuations and competition moved from ninth to eighth place at 14%, and new technologies moved from 12th to 10th place at 10%.

Natural disasters pose greatest risk in Turkey
In Turkey, natural disasters, which ranked third last year, were identified as the most significant risk this year at 54%. Macroeconomic developments, which were considered the most important risk last year, dropped to second place at 50% this year. Fire and explosion risk entered the list for the first time this year, ranking third at 31%. Political risks and violence, which ranked third last year, entered the list from fourth place this year. Critical infrastructure disruptions were among the new risk factors entering the list this year. Critical infrastructure disruptions, including risks such as power outages or failures in bridges and railways, ranked ninth at 8%.

Evaluating the Allianz Risk Barometer 2025, Tolga Gürkan, CEO of Allianz Turkey, noted that cyber events, which are increasing alongside digitalization that has rapidly taken center stage in our lives, have emerged as the biggest risk factor globally, and drew attention to the fact that cyber events encompassing threats such as malware, data breaches and phishing attacks have been viewed as the most important risk for four consecutive years.

Gürkan continued:

"Based on these results, we can say that the impact of the pandemic on our lives as a turning point that accelerated digitalization has been substantial. With the pandemic, our risk perception increased as a world. We see this reflected in Turkey in natural disasters ranking as the biggest risk in first place. The rise of natural disasters to first place in our country's risk barometer indicates increased awareness in the business world regarding the physical, operational and financial risks posed by disasters.

Less than two years have passed since the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes that deeply affected our country, and the fact that this risk we face at any moment ranks first indicates that our awareness as a society has increased. Additionally, the rise of business interruption risk from seventh to fifth place in our country deserves attention. This is because during the earthquake disasters we experienced, we collectively experienced that structural and non-structural damages, in addition to material losses, also caused business interruptions spanning quite lengthy periods."
