Edible Perfume Developed

Gülşah Gedik, Head of Pharmaceutical Technology Department at Trakya University Faculty of Pharmacy, has developed an ingestible perfume in tablet form derived from roses. Assoc. Prof. Gedik stated that the ingestible perfume they produced delivers a rose scent, and noted that they have initiated work to revive the cultivation of roses grown in the Balkans and Thrace region. Gedik explained that within the scope of this work, they were influenced by rose aroma produced in Bulgaria and candy formulations, and began work to develop an improved product. Since sugar is harmful to the body, they worked to obtain a more standardized formula without sugar and food additives. The research team, which also examined similar products made in Korea and Japan, found that these products contained many preservative substances and developed a capsule without using those substances.

Produced Without Synthetic Materials

Assoc. Prof. Gedik, noting that they drew inspiration from the structure of garlic, shared information about capsule production. Gedik stated: "One of these products is produced by extracting essence from rose, placing it in a capsule that imparts the rose's own aroma without using synthetic materials, then converting it to powder in a spray dryer. Sometimes we coat it with polymer. To make it ingestible, we then place it inside capsules. The capsules have a strong scent; this scent comes from the rose."

Enables the Body to Smell Pleasant

Gedik noted that taking 4 capsules daily is sufficient to achieve a pleasant scent, and stated: "This product is not intended to replace conventional perfumes. Some will like it, others will not. Our product is different; beyond making the body smell pleasant, we also aimed for pleasant-smelling restrooms. It contains only natural rose. When you actually use this product, you are essentially consuming concentrated rose. Consequently, you also obtain other properties of rose such as anti-stress and antimicrobial effects."

"A Product That Could Support Pain-Relief Properties"

Gedik further explained: "It can be preferred by people who do not wish to use alcohol-containing products for religious reasons. It can be preferred by enthusiasts. However, it is not a product that can compete with the perfume industry. It is a different product with different purposes and aspirations. Its structure is not merely about smelling good. Beyond that, it could address inflammation, antibacterial properties, and other health issues. Particularly, it is a product that could support pain-relief properties," and shared that they have filed a patent application for the product.
