WLTP Emission Tests Can Now Be Conducted in Turkey

The OTAM WLTP Emission Test Laboratory was inaugurated at a special ceremony held on 20 March at the İTÜ Ayazağa Campus. With the OTAM WLTP Emission Test Laboratory, WLTP emission tests mandated by Europe will be conducted within OTAM at the same standards.
The WLTP Emission Test Laboratory has been modernized according to the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP), which the European Union redesigned and adopted in 2017 to replace NDEC test standards. At this laboratory, fuel consumption and emission tests of vehicles will be conducted.
The modernized test centre, which now includes WLTP testing, is intended to free leading automotive manufacturers in Turkey from external dependency while also serving as an alternative to Europe, where WLTP test centres are limited and unable to meet demand.
The ceremony organized by OTAM was attended by members of the İTÜ Foundation Board of Directors, OTAM Board of Directors members, and executives from leading manufacturing companies in the sector.
Ekrem Özcan, General Director of OTAM, delivered the opening address and shared information about the WLTP Emission Test Laboratory that has been commissioned. Özcan stated that the new system put into operation will provide a solution that completely eliminates external dependency for automotive manufacturers in Turkey, and noted that the target is to conduct WLTP tests for 750 vehicles annually.
Özcan spoke as follows: "We are pleased to now be able to conduct WLTP testing, which is required for all new vehicles in Europe, within our own facility, and to have provided such a centre to the sector.
Our emission test laboratory modernization project, realized through the WLTP system we have commissioned, is a project that came to fruition as a result of an investment of TRY 2,500,000 and 11 months of work in OTAM's 15th year of operation.
At our centre, which will provide test services in European standards, we will be able to conduct WLTP tests for 750 vehicles within one year in our own facility. Our test centre will provide an alternative solution to Europe, which currently has limited WLTP centres and faces an automotive testing bottleneck."
