Leave No One Behind - World Down Syndrome Day 2019
All people with Down syndrome should have the opportunity to live fulfilling lives and participate fully and equally with others in all areas of society. The 2030 UN Sustainable Development Agenda, a global action plan for people, planet and prosperity, promises that "no one will be left behind."
Unfortunately, negative attitudes, prejudices, discrimination and exclusion today cause individuals with Down syndrome to be left behind. The difficulties these individuals face throughout their lives are not understood. Support systems that would help them access the opportunities and tools they need to realize their potential are insufficient.
For this reason, individuals with Down syndrome and those supporting them must advocate for these opportunities and work to spread this message that leads to real change.
The European Down Syndrome Association (EDSA) called on all individuals with Down syndrome on Thursday, 21 March 2019, World Down Syndrome Day, to voice the slogan "Leave No One Behind."
For World Down Syndrome Day 2019, EDSA called on its members to participate alongside individuals with Down syndrome in schools, workplaces, social, political and public life, sports—in all areas of life—together.
To clearly demonstrate that no one should be excluded, EDSA continues to showcase 21 examples from European countries, including Turkey, on its website.
