Major Step Taken for Energy Efficiency in the Transportation Sector

The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources announced that USD 3.7 billion will be invested in the transport sector during 2024-2030 to increase energy efficiency. In a post from the Ministry's X account, the statement was made: "With the Second National Energy Efficiency Action Plan, we will prioritize energy-efficient solutions and applications in the transport sector." The post included a chart containing targets for the transport sector within the action plan covering the 2024-2030 period. Accordingly, a total of USD 3.7 billion will be invested to increase energy efficiency in the transport sector during the said period. Within the scope of energy-efficient solutions and applications, energy and charging infrastructure will be established to facilitate the use of more than 1 million electric vehicles on roads by 2030. Mechanisms will be developed for the use of artificial intelligence-based applications capable of detecting traffic density and adjusting signalization periods. Studies will be conducted for freight transport on high-speed rail lines. Low-carbon emission zones will be created in cities to restrict the entry of heavy-tonnage vehicles into these zones. Through energy efficiency initiatives, oil energy savings equivalent to 9 million tons and emission reductions of 26.8 million tons will be achieved during the said period. Source
