TÜSİAD Addresses Women's Economic Participation at International Women's Day Event

At an event organized by TÜSİAD to mark International Women's Day, the importance of women's equal participation in economic life and decision-making mechanisms was once again emphasized. In the opening speech delivered on behalf of the TÜSİAD Board of Directors, the organization's 25 years of work on gender equality and its data-driven recommendations were highlighted.

On the occasion of International Women's Day, TUSIAD held an event emphasizing once again the importance of equal participation of women in economic life and decision-making mechanisms. In the opening remarks made on behalf of TUSIAD's Board of Management, the organization highlighted its 25 years of work on gender equality and evidence-based recommendations.

The remarks stressed the importance of creating an environment in an era where technological developments, climate crisis and demographic changes are reshaping economies, where women can freely realize their potential in every aspect of life. TUSIAD noted that comprehensive solutions are required for women to achieve a stronger position in education, employment and business life.

Key data points highlighted in the statement include:
-Female university students in Turkey outnumber male students, yet women's labor force participation rates remain low,

-Only 27% of women with children under age 3 remain employed,

-Balanced sharing of care responsibilities between men and women is of critical importance.

In this context, TUSIAD emphasized the need for "equal parenting" approaches, accessible childcare and pre-school education, as well as the widespread adoption of flexible and secure work models. Additionally, attention was drawn to the importance of regular data disclosure by companies and the establishment of inclusive leadership mechanisms to ensure equal representation of women in management positions.

Four priority areas were identified for strengthening gender equality:
-Equal opportunity in education and employment,

-Institutional support mechanisms within the care economy,

-Equal representation in decision-making mechanisms,

-Protection of women's right to safe living and zero tolerance for violence.

TUSIAD stated that it continues to support women's right to safe living through its "Business World Against Domestic Violence" project, and drew attention to the importance of joint efforts by the public sector, private sector, civil society and academia in ensuring equal participation of women in economic and social life.

The event aims to contribute to taking concrete steps that will accelerate women's equal participation in all aspects of life.
