Turkey's Energy Supply Rose 5.1% Over the Past Year

Global energy demand grew more than 2% in 2024, reaching an all-time high. Electricity demand expanded above 4%. Turkey's total energy supply increased by 5.1% in just the past year, making it the fastest-growing country in Europe in this regard.

Özge Müçek, Sales and Marketing Director of Ravago Building Solutions Mineral Wool, noted that this picture demonstrates a critical need for energy efficiency, stating: "Turkey's energy imports approach approximately USD 80 billion annually. Around USD 12–15 billion is wasted due to lack of insulation. Proper thermal insulation can deliver at least 15% savings on energy bills."

Energy Efficiency in Buildings Plays a Critical Role
Approximately 37% of final energy consumption in Turkey occurs in the building sector. Özge Müçek emphasized that quality thermal insulation applied in buildings not only reduces energy bills but also:

• Reduces carbon emissions,
• Lowers dependence on fossil fuels,
• Strengthens energy supply security
  and is vital in these respects.

"Thermal insulation reduces heating costs in winter and cooling costs in summer while improving indoor comfort. This is an indispensable solution for both economic and environmental sustainability," she said.

Misconception: Insulation Is Not Only Necessary in Cold Regions
Müçek drew attention to the misconception in Turkey that insulation need only be applied in cold regions, noting that cooling costs also represent a serious burden. Recalling that the revised TS 825 regulation has increased insulation thicknesses, Müçek stated that these measures will further increase energy savings.

Insulated Buildings Enable a Sustainable Future
Müçek, who said Turkey must move quickly on energy efficiency in line with the European Union's 2053 net-zero emissions targets, stated:

"Today, many older buildings still lack insulation. It is our responsibility to contribute concretely to a sustainable future by increasing the number of insulated buildings.
