Turkish Nuclear Industry Association Delegation Visits Akkuyu NPP
The NIATR delegation, headed by Alikaan Çiftçi, Chairman of the Turkish Nuclear Industry Association (NIATR), visited the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) site, which is being built by Russia's State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom.
A delegation of the Turkish Nuclear Industry Association (NIATR) headed by Chairman Alikaan Çiftçi visited the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) construction site, which is being built by Russian state nuclear energy company Rosatom.
Sergei Butckikh, General Director of AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş., presented information about the project during the delegation's reception and answered questions from NIATR members. Both parties discussed cooperation opportunities to increase the participation of Turkish suppliers in the Akkuyu NPP project.
Sergei Butckikh, General Director of AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş., said: "We are open to dialogue with all stakeholders in the new high-technology sector that is taking shape in Turkey. The number of Turkish suppliers to Akkuyu NPP has already exceeded 2,000, and the localization rate established in the initial phases of the project has nearly doubled. We continuously seek opportunities to increase the share of local production to ensure the long-term and sustainable development of the project. Cooperation with NIATR and its members will contribute to achieving these goals and will open new perspectives for Turkish manufacturers' participation in the project."
The delegation members toured the construction site of Akkuyu NPP's 1st Power Unit and visited Turkey's first training center, where they spoke with Turkish engineers receiving training at the plant's full-scale control room simulator. NIATR representatives also visited the general facility desalination complex, which will supply desalinated water for the operating and fire safety systems of Akkuyu NPP, and obtained information from facility officials.
Alikaan Çiftçi, NIATR Chairman, stated: "The visit to Akkuyu NPP was highly productive. We obtained current information about the project. We discussed cooperation opportunities to increase Turkish industry's participation share and to expand localized production through the inclusion of new manufacturers. We see significant potential for the development of Turkey's nuclear industry thanks to the Akkuyu NPP project."
