Turkish Chemical Sector Showcased in Uzbekistan The İKMİB (Istanbul Chemicals and Chemical Products Exporters Association) organized a "Chemical Sector Uzbekistan Sectoral Trade Mission." The mission, held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, was attended by 33 representatives from 22 Turkish companies. Over the three-day event, more than 140 bilateral business meetings took place. Adil Pelister, Chairman of the İKMİB Board of Management, stated: "As İKMİB, we organized this sectoral trade mission to help our exporters increase their market share in Uzbekistan with stronger performance. Uzbekistan ranks 26th in our sector's country export rankings with USD 298 million in the ten-month period this year. The three product groups we export most to Uzbekistan are plastics and plastic products (USD 99.8 million), paints, varnishes, inks and preparations (USD 59.4 million), and miscellaneous chemicals (USD 41.2 million). When we look at the last five-year period, we see an increase in sector exports to Uzbekistan every year. Our exports increased by 18.64 percent in the ten-month period this year," he said. Organized by İKMİB to increase chemical sector exports, expand export markets and increase market share in existing markets, the "Chemical Sector Uzbekistan Sectoral Trade Mission" open to all 16 subsectors took place in Tashkent between 7-10 November 2022. The event was led by Halit Süha Taşpolatoğlu, Member of the İKMİB Board of Management, and was attended by 33 representatives from 22 Turkish companies operating in four sectors: pharmaceuticals-food supplements, cosmetics-cleaning, plastic household and kitchen goods, and chemical raw materials. Over 140 bilateral business meetings were held with Uzbek business people.

In addition to bilateral business meetings, the event included market visits where information on sales channels and price levels was shared, and Turkish chemical sector promotions were broadcast on Uzbek television channels. During the three-day program, Ambassador Olgan Bekar was visited, and commercial relations between the two countries and business practices in the country were shared with participants. On the final day of the mission, a meeting was held with Davut Azmi Erbaş, Chairman of the Uzbek-Turkish Businessmen's Association, and the association's management.  

"We will continue to support our sector through sectoral trade missions"

Adil Pelister, Chairman of the İKMİB Board of Management, noted that İKMİB carries out numerous activities to contribute to the sector's exports, ranging from national pavilion exhibitions and sectoral trade missions to competitions, training and workshops, and made the following remarks on the subject: "We have added another sectoral trade mission to those we have already conducted. Our sectoral trade mission to Uzbekistan, organized between 7-10 November 2022, was open to all our chemical subsectors. A total of 22 of our member companies participated in the mission. Based on our discussions with our Trade Attachés, we know that in recent times production activities in all areas and sectors in Uzbekistan have accelerated, new facilities have begun to open, and within this framework there is increased demand for products and equipment necessary for production. Through the country's revisited tax policies, customs tariff rates on products that are not produced or are produced in limited quantities in the country are being reduced. Moreover, the interest in Turkish television series and the close relations between the governments of the two countries increase demand for Turkish products. As İKMİB, the umbrella organization of Turkish chemical sector exports, we organized this mission to help our exporters increase their market share in Uzbekistan with stronger performance. Kenya and Vietnam-Thailand Chemical Sectoral Trade Missions to be held

Pelister stated that they will hold two more sectoral trade missions by year-end, saying: "We will conduct our Nairobi/Kenya sectoral trade mission between 20-24 November 2022 and our Vietnam-Thailand sectoral trade mission between 12-18 December 2022."
