Turkish Doctors and Engineers Achieve Major Success Turkey's first domestic stent-graft was successfully applied at Bezmialem Vakıf University Faculty of Medicine under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Cengiz Köksal and Assoc. According to the statement, arterial stiffness is emerging as a growing problem among advanced age groups. This condition is seen as a situation where blood vessels harden and narrow, reducing blood flow, and can particularly lead to blockages in the leg vessels. However, thanks to technological advances, major innovations are occurring in this area. Particularly with angiographic methods, treatment options are being offered without requiring surgery. Balloon, stent, and vessel scraping methods are among the leading treatments. The production of medical devices used in these treatments could once only be performed by certain countries. But now Turkey is producing its own devices in this field and taking a place on the world stage. One of the major innovations in this area is considered to be 'Stent Graft' technology. The stent graft, a special medical device placed inside the vessel used to treat ballooning or injuries occurring within blood vessels, supports the vessel and helps restore proper blood flow. While in the past treatment was performed worldwide with medical devices produced in only certain countries, now all these procedures have become possible with domestic production.
