Tüpraş Contributes to a Sustainable Future with 100,000 Saplings

Türkiye's leading energy company Türkiye Petrol Refineries Corporation, in line with its "Our Energy for the Future" approach, supported afforestation efforts by donating 100,000 saplings in Izmit, Izmir, Kırıkkale and Batman, where its refineries are located. Planting ceremonies organized in cooperation with the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry General Directorate of Forestry (OGM) contributed both to the creation of memorial forests and to the reafforestation of areas affected by fires.

These efforts, implemented within Türkiye Petrol Refineries Corporation's sustainability and environmental management strategies, serve the protection of biological diversity, the prevention of soil erosion, the strengthening of carbon sinks and the building of resilience of natural ecosystems against climate change.

Türkiye Petrol Refineries Corporation General Manager İbrahim Yelmenoğlu commented on the afforestation activities as follows:

Bringing 100,000 saplings to the ground over the course of a year in cooperation with the General Directorate of Forestry is a concrete manifestation of this vision."

Activities and contributions to local ecosystems

Türkiye Petrol Refineries Corporation employees, refinery managers and environment-sustainability teams voluntarily participated in the afforestation activities carried out in the provinces where the refineries are located. During the events, representatives of the General Directorate of Forestry provided information about the processes and ecosystem contributions.

The memorial forests created contribute to the strengthening of regional ecosystems while creating lasting environmental value for future generations. Employees' voluntary participation also supports the spread of environmental awareness in institutional culture.

Türkiye Petrol Refineries Corporation does not limit afforestation efforts to the greening of new areas but also contributes to the rehabilitation of fire-affected areas in Izmir and Izmit. The types of saplings to be planted are determined by General Directorate of Forestry experts taking into account regional plant cover, ecosystem needs and potential fire risks. For example, in the planting area in Batman, pistachio saplings that will benefit bird species and the local economy were preferred.
