New Professions Emerging from a Sustainability Vision
Fatih Cömert, Turkey Director of international recruitment and consulting firm Michael Page, emphasizes that companies prioritizing sustainability attract more capital and talent, pointing out that the green revolution requires more than lip-service commitment.
Michael Page Turkey Director Fatih Cömert states that top management skill and determination are necessary for sustainability targets to be implemented across all levels of the company.
Cömert says that today one of all companies' priorities should be to establish forward-thinking realistic targets and create a sustainability roadmap where the entire workforce feels included in the process. "Companies should also progress along a roadmap that includes a cross-functional organizational model where sustainability has an impact on all corporate functions," he said.
Visionary leaders view sustainability as both a corporate commitment and a personal responsibility. The number of Board Members, CEOs and Marketing Directors who feel a strong sense of responsibility toward their employees and customers and attempt to meet their expectations is steadily increasing.
New roles emerging with sustainability
Among the leading roles responsible for implementing companies' sustainability vision is the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) President. In this emerging new role, key responsibilities include assessing risks and opportunities and facilitating the understanding of ESG factors and their consideration in investment decisions. They need to possess strategic vision skills on sustainable development at both the operational level and at financial, social/humanitarian and globalization/inclusivity levels. Another key position emerging in the era of corporate sustainability is "Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer." This role requires focusing on smart and company-friendly implementation of corporate diversity and inclusion policies, and possessing an international, multicultural foundation and global vision. Another important role is the "Sustainability Development Manager" position. This position involves responsibility for implementing sustainability across all company processes, from operations and business to employee culture and behavior. Fatih Cömert summarizes his views on sustainability as follows: "The increasing expectations of stakeholders, investors, policymakers and the public are prompting global industry to become 'environmentally conscious' more quickly. The pandemic and global sustainability targets are strengthening this trend. Innovation is at the foundation of having a clear vision for new leadership in the changing business environment."Advertisement
