Wilo Group and Turkish Minister of Trade Discuss Water Scarcity Issue

Oliver Hermes, Chief Executive Officer and Chair of the Board at Wilo, and Jens Dallendörfer, Vice President of Sales for the Emerging Markets Region, met on 14 July 2021 with Turkish Minister of Commerce Mehmet Muş to exchange views. In recent years, Wilo has developed specialized technologies for wastewater applications and solutions to address water scarcity challenges. As a specialist, Wilo is the leading brand in pump systems for over 149 years globally and 30 years in Turkey, continuing its work to contribute to protecting world resources through its technology. Oliver Hermes, who also serves as Vice President of the Near and Middle East Union (NUMOV), outlined Wilo Group's core expertise areas to Minister Mehmet Muş during the discussion held at the Turkish Embassy in Berlin, where representatives of Germany's distinguished companies gathered. Oliver Hermes stated: "Pumps and pump systems play a key role in climate protection as well as in developing sustainable and energy-efficient water infrastructure. Many people do not realize that pumps consume approximately 10% of the electricity consumed worldwide." Minister Mehmet Muş said he was highly pleased that Turkey recognized this importance early on, noting that energy savings in the context of mega trends such as pumps and pump systems, climate change and water scarcity were extremely important. Vice President of Sales for the Emerging Markets Region Jens Dallendörfer emphasized the following points in the discussion: "Wilo, with green technologies and water management among its core areas of expertise, is a reliable business partner for infrastructure projects. On this basis, new projects in Turkey will become a greater focus in the future."

Turkey: A strategically important market since 1992

Wilo Group has been operating in Turkey for over 30 years. "In the early days, the high-tech company group recognized the potential of the Turkish market for exports to third countries and its strategically important position," explains Oliver Hermes. In recent years, Wilo not only invested in office space and a training center but also established a production facility. Wilo currently employs approximately 100 people in Turkey.
