Şişecam has commissioned a new flat glass facility and TR9 production line in Tarsus with an investment of EUR 315 million. The facility, with an annual production capacity of 432,000 tonnes, brings Şişecam's total flat glass production capacity above 5 million tonnes.
Şişecam, a global player in the glass and chemicals sector, has completed a EUR 315 million greenfield investment in the Tarsus district of Mersin and commissioned the TR9 production line. The facility, equipped with a high-capacity furnace and production line, has an annual gross production capacity of 432,000 tonnes and represents Şişecam's largest flat glass production facility to date.
With the new facility coming online, Şişecam's total flat glass production capacity has exceeded 5 million tonnes, positioning the facility among the world's highest-capacity flat glass production investments.
"Will further strengthen our global competitive position"
In comments on the investment, Can Yücel noted that Tarsus's strategic location provides significant advantages for the project.
Yücel made the following statement on the matter:
"With this investment, which aligns with our value-added and sustainable production strategy, we have commissioned one of the world's largest flat glass production facilities. With the new line coming online, Şişecam's production capacity will increase, and our competitive position in global markets will be significantly strengthened."
Yücel stated that the colourless flat glass products manufactured at the Tarsus facility will be supplied to the domestic market, and that the facility will also feed raw glass to a coating line planned to be commissioned in Tarsus. Emphasizing that this line will be used in the production of architectural glass products, Yücel said the investment will increase capacity utilization and operational efficiency.
Raw material preparation facilities also commissioned
As part of the investment, the Sand Preparation Facility, located on the same site as the TR9 line, has been brought to production readiness. Sand used in glass manufacturing will be processed at this facility and transferred directly to the furnace.
Additionally, capacity expansion at the limestone and dolomite preparation facility located in Mersin Organized Industrial Zone has been completed. This facility will supply a significant portion of the raw materials required by the TR9 line.
