PAGDER Chairman Reha Gür: "New Petrochemical Investment is a National Project"
Highlighting the necessity of the chemical sector being at the focus of the next stage of localization, Reha Gür, Chairman of the Plastics Manufacturers Association (PAGDER), stated, "The new petrochemical investment needs to be implemented under public leadership." The 9th Chemical Industry Development Congress, held under the leadership of the Chemical Sector Platform (KSP), which PAGDER chairs during this term and which includes representatives from 36 organizations, took place on 14-15 February 2018 in Ankara. The program, opened by Deputy Minister of Science, Industry and Technology Hasan Ali Çelik, was also attended by Arda Ermut, President of the Prime Ministry Investment Support and Promotion Agency, and Ramazan Yıldırım, Deputy Undersecretary of Science, Industry and Technology. At the Congress, attended by representatives from academia, civil society organizations and public institutions, it was emphasized that a petrochemical facility investment needs to be brought online without delay. At the Congress, where it was stated that the petrochemical investment would be the move that creates a leap in the added value generated by the chemical sector, the call was "petrochemical investment now, immediately" to reduce import dependency, for high-value-added products and for large-scale employment.Gür: "European chemical giants have olive trees in their gardens"
Stating that chemical investments are among the most environmentally friendly investments, PAGDER Chairman Reha Gür said, "With today's technology, we see that chemical investments are the investments that contribute most to sustainability. We learned that the European chemical giants who participated in our Congress have olive trees in their gardens. Therefore, production carried out in compliance with regulations does not pollute the environment. Chemical investments cannot be evaluated with outdated technology perceptions. Industry does not develop without befriending chemical investments."More than 40 sectors will be affected by the new investment
At the Congress, it was stated that more than 40 sectors could be positively affected through a single investment. As a result of new investments, inputs for mineral oils and fuels, plastics, rubber, composite products, paints, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and pharmacy products, medical products, textiles, automotive, white goods, electronics, construction and telecommunications and many other sectors will be supplied domestically.Advertisement
