Schneider Electric Introduces New Generation Galaxy VXL UPS

Schneider Electric Introduces Galaxy VXL UPS, the Industry's Most Compact and High-Density Power Protection System for AI, Data Centers and Large-Scale Electrical Loads

The new ultra-compact UPS delivers next-generation power protection for critical infrastructure environments, including AI-enabled data centers, semiconductors, commercial and industrial production facilities.

Its high-density design and fault-tolerant architecture minimize total cost of ownership while providing maximum availability and up to 99% efficiency.

It includes advanced security and cybersecurity features, remote monitoring capabilities and EcoCare, a next-generation service plan that provides specialized support with maximum lifespan.

The leader in digital transformation in energy management and automation, Schneider Electric, introduced the new Galaxy VXL on 4 December. Equipped with enhanced cybersecurity, software and security features, this new system stands out as a 400V 3-phase uninterruptible power supply (UPS) operating in the 500-1250 kW capacity range.

Delivering 1042 kW/m² power density across just 1.2 m², Galaxy VXL sets a new standard in efficient, sustainable and advanced-technology UPS systems. Available immediately across all 400V IEC regions, Galaxy VXL provides maximum power performance for large-scale critical infrastructure in AI, colocation and hyperscale data center environments as well as commercial buildings and industrial facilities.

With industry-leading compact design, high-density power delivery and AI-fault tolerant architecture, Galaxy VXL maximizes uptime and availability of the most energy-intensive infrastructure systems. It can supply up to 1.25 MW in a single frame and up to 5 MW when four units operate in parallel. It also reduces customers' total cost of ownership (TCO) by improving operational and energy efficiency.

Through patented operation mode technology, Galaxy VXL delivers efficiency of up to 99% in high-efficiency eConversion mode and up to 97.5% in double conversion mode. This reduces energy consumption while cutting carbon emissions in half.

Galaxy VXL occupies 52% less space compared to industry average. Its modular design supports N+1 redundancy levels, increasing system accessibility tenfold. Additionally, customers can reduce capital expenditure (CapEx) by purchasing modular power units according to their needs and can add additional power modules as demand grows, optimizing energy efficiency.

Galaxy VXL is compatible with both lithium-ion and VRLA batteries and features Live Swap capability, increasing uptime and serviceability. This technology enables power module replacement with zero downtime, providing high levels of resilience and security. Additionally, through remote monitoring provided by Schneider Electric's EcoStruxure IT software and enhanced ethernet connections compliant with IEC 62443-4-2 security standards, it offers completely secure remote connection management experience.

Tarunjeet Sarao, Senior Vice President, Data Center Systems at Schneider Electric stated: "As dependence on large-scale infrastructure systems grows at an unprecedented pace, it is critical for our customers to have access to the most sustainable, resilient and efficient technologies capable of protecting their critical systems. Our new Galaxy VXL UPS product combines compact, innovative and highly efficient design with advanced security features to deliver world-leading power protection for diverse AI, data center and industrial applications. This contributes to future high-density workloads being supported with unique levels of reliability."

Key Features and Benefits of Galaxy VXL UPS:

Schneider Electric's Galaxy VXL UPS is designed to deliver record-breaking power densities and an AI-ready power architecture for the most demanding energy workloads. For the first time in history, this new UPS provides customers with 125 kW scalable power modules in a 3U space, can support up to 1.25 MW of critical load in a single frame and can deliver up to 5 MW of power in just 4.8 m² when four units operate in parallel. Key benefits include:

  • Modular, scalable, high-power design: With 1042 kW/m² power density, customers can deploy 1.25 MW modular UPS in a single frame and add additional modules according to their needs.
  • Small footprint: Galaxy VXL measures 1.2 m² and offers a 52% space improvement compared to industry average, provides complete front access and requires no rear clearance, enabling better power and space utilization.
  • Increased efficiency and sustainability: Galaxy VXL delivers up to 99% efficiency in eConversion mode and up to 97.5% efficiency in double conversion mode. Its compact design reduces raw materials, reduces packaging and includes SPoT (Smart Power Test) mode for UPS and Power Module testing, which saves electricity.
  • Lower CapEx and OpEx: Improved energy efficiency, lower electricity bills, reduced labor costs and easier service/maintenance reduce total cost of ownership.
  • Enhanced robust design: It has 100 kA short-circuit withstand capability and mechanical structure supported with optional seismic kit.
  • Advanced cybersecurity: IEC 62443-4-2 certified and features Live Swap technology that enables module replacement with zero downtime.
  • Extended lifespan with EcoCare: With Galaxy VXL, Schneider Electric offers EcoCare membership, a next-generation service plan. This plan provides premium access to technical experts both on-site and remotely, AI-enabled 24/7 remote monitoring, condition-based maintenance to reduce field downtime by up to 50% and helps extend the lifespan of the UPS system.
  • Perfect for pre-fabricated data centers: With smaller physical space, higher efficiency and lower cost, Galaxy VXL provides robust infrastructure for next-generation pre-fabricated data centers.

Capacity Increase to Meet Growing Customer Demand for AI Systems

Schneider Electric has increased production capacity at several of its global factories to meet rising customer demand for AI systems. In this context, Galaxy VXL UPS annual production capacity is expected to exceed 9,000 units in 2025.

Additionally, Galaxy VXL UPS will be deployed at Schneider Electric's Sant Boi, Barcelona facility and will be integrated to create robust infrastructure for Schneider Electric's pre-fabricated, modular, high-compute data center solutions.
