Process Safety Symposium Organizing Committee Meeting

Organising Committee Meeting Held with High Attendance for the 3rd "Process Safety Symposium" to be Organised under Kocaeli Chamber of Industry Coordination. Kocaeli Chamber of Industry (KSO) has undertaken many initiatives on SEVESO and Occupational Health and Safety to date. It has crowned these efforts with the "Process Safety Symposium and Exhibition" which it has successfully implemented over the past two years. The 2nd symposium held on 9-10 April 2019 was attended by 1,600 participants. The symposium, which brought together legislators, inspectors, business owners, sector professionals, educators and certification bodies, shed light on the future of Turkey's chemical sector, the country's third largest export sector. At the event, which brought together all stakeholders on the subject, participants had the opportunity to share their knowledge, research, problems and solution proposals, products and services. The first Organising Committee Meeting of the "Kocaeli Chamber of Industry 3rd Process Safety Symposium" to be held on 2-3 June 2020 at Muallimköy Information Valley under the coordination of KSO and organisation of Artkim Group was conducted with the participation of relevant stakeholders.

Significant obligations imposed on chemical plants

At the opening of the Organising Committee Meeting, Hasan Şerefhan, KSO Board Member and Symposium Steering Committee Chair, stated in his speech, "In our province, which produces 27 per cent of the country's chemical industry, environmental and occupational health and safety issues are among the priority matters. The regulations on our agenda today have brought significant obligations particularly to facilities operating in the chemical sector." Noting that with the support of the KSO management board and the 9th and 10th Professional Committees, they have undertaken many initiatives on the subject to date, Şerefhan continued as follows: "We have crowned all these efforts with the 'Process Safety Symposium'. Our objective in organising the symposium is to bring together all stakeholders – legislators, inspectors, sector professionals, educators, product and service entrepreneurs, certification bodies – so that knowledge, research, problems and solutions, products and services are shared and the relevant parties fully understand the process, and most importantly, implementation practices are jointly determined. At the symposium we organised last year, 23 presentations were made including invited papers, and 1,600 people attended. We will organise the 3rd edition of this event, which we conducted with high attendance, again with the support of the relevant Ministry, institutions, universities and companies. This year we plan to strengthen the symposium with new important topics and organise it to international standards. With the 3rd Symposium that we plan to hold on 2-3 June again at Information Valley and with our new partner, we aim to reach a wider audience. We request the support of the Organising Committee Members on the symposium," he said.

The meeting continued with a presentation by Project Coordinator Aynur Hacıfettahoğlu covering "symposium venue, schedule, paper and panel topics, programme, symposium committees, supporting institutions and organisations, and exhibition and sponsorship activities." Hacıfettahoğlu, who received views and suggestions from Organising Committee Members on the symposium, stated that with the symposium strengthened with new topics, they aimed to reach a wider audience this year. Following the presentation, Cengiz Yaman, CEO of Artkim Group, shared information about the company while also informing participants on exhibition space and sponsorship matters. The meeting was attended by the Ministry of Industry, İTÜ, Yıldız Technical University, KOÜ, Üsküdar University, TÜBİTAK MAM, TSE, Artkim Group, companies operating in the chemical sector and consulting firms.
