Polisan's Climate Change Program Achieves "B+" Rating The CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), an environmental reporting platform that encourages companies to set SMART targets and take action to address numerous global environmental challenges, has released its 2022 scores. Polisan Holding, which joined the CDP network in 2017 and regularly reports its sustainability work and results to the organization, upgraded its Climate Change Program rating globally from 'B-' to 'B+'. The Holding's CDP Water Security Program rating was announced as 'B-'. Assessing the change in Polisan Holding's ratings, CEO Mehmet Hacıkamiloğlu stated: "Our planet has reached the brink of an existential crisis because carbon and greenhouse gas emissions along with industrial waste are harming our world. The disasters linked to climate change and the extent of pollution can only be addressed through a comprehensive struggle. Just as individuals have serious responsibilities at this point, industrial companies must also adopt environmentally conscious production and management practices as part of their sustainability policies and implement them. Reducing carbon emissions in industry to the lowest possible level and managing resources, particularly energy, in a way that supports nature and productivity is only possible with strong institutional commitment. As Polisan Holding Group Companies, we incorporate our environmentally conscious production and management approach starting from the R&D process and apply it meticulously at every stage. Our approach, which places nature, people, health and the future ahead of any potential costs and shapes our activities based on these priorities, will continue tomorrow as it did yesterday and today." he said. Mehmet Hacıkamiloğlu added that the success they achieved globally in CDP scores as a result of their work is extremely important as it shows they are on the right path. Stating that they have pursued a serious policy in combating climate change over the past 10 years and that their goal is to enter the "A" list, one tier above their current rating, Mehmet Hacıkamiloğlu said: "In its report published in December 2022, the CDP stated that on behalf of 590 investors managing assets worth 110 trillion dollars last year, they called on the world's leading companies to disclose their environmental policies. The CDP, which improves its reporting standards every year, receives reports from over 15,000 companies worldwide. As Polisan Holding, we are pleased and proud to have achieved a result that matches the B score across Europe in the chemistry sector, is above B- globally, and is above the C rating in all sectors. We will continue our sustainability work with great diligence to raise our score to 'A' and take another step up on the list of companies treating the world best," he said.
Carbon Emissions at Polisan Reduced by 53 Percent
Providing information about their work, Mehmet Hacıkamiloğlu stated that in combating climate change, they have reduced Scope I-II emission intensity by 53 percent through renewable energy investments. Mehmet Hacıkamiloğlu said: "We aim to meet all the electrical energy used in our headquarters building, chemistry and paint factories, and port operations area in the Kocaeli Gulf Region with renewable energy and become carbon neutral in this regard. We increased our renewable energy usage rate from 50 percent in 2021 to 60 percent in 2022. We aim to increase this rate to 100 percent by 2025. To achieve this, we have many projects and ideas ahead of us, including building solar power plants on factory grounds. We will continue on our path with the most appropriate project to achieve our carbon neutrality target in electricity."
Achieved 1.3 Million Kilowatt-Hour Energy Savings
Mehmet Hacıkamiloğlu stated in his remarks that after the paint factory, they also constructed the new resin facility according to green building standards. Drawing attention to the importance of applying an environmentally conscious approach comprehensively in all processes in industry, Mehmet Hacıkamiloğlu described the improvements they achieved in carbon emissions, waste and recycling, and electricity and water savings as a result of their work. Mehmet Hacıkamiloğlu continued: "As a result of the projects we are implementing, we have reduced our carbon emissions by 53 percent as a holding, the amount of waste we have disposed of is 448 tons, and the amount of waste we have recovered is 14,016 tons. The energy savings we achieved during the year amounted to 1,302,508 kilowatt hours. Additionally, our normalized water consumption reduction rates are 12 percent at the Polisan Kansai Paint GEBKİM facility, 19 percent at the Polisan Kansai Paint Dilovası facility, and 21 percent at the Polisan Chemistry Dilovası facility."
