Merck Türkiye Calls for "Be Bold" Against Cancer

Merck Turkey employees volunteer in fight against cancer.Merck Turkey employees held an event on World Cancer Day to raise awareness against cancer. At the event organized in cooperation with the Cancer Warriors Association, the message was conveyed that awareness about cancer must be created and courage is needed in the fight against the disease. Cancer causes the death of 9.6 million people every year, and this figure is expected to nearly double by 2030. The total annual cost to the world of fighting cancer is USD 1.16 trillion. Authorities point out that at least one third of common cancers can be prevented. This means that through cancer awareness, early diagnosis and timely appropriate treatment, the lives of 3.7 million people can be saved annually.

This year's World Cancer Day on 4 February was themed "I am, I will" and "Be bold" by the Union for International Cancer Control. In this context, on 4 February World Cancer Day, Merck Turkey employees and members of the Cancer Warriors Association set up stands and distributed brochures to not only draw attention to preventing cancer, but also to reach people in their daily lives and bring to the agenda the importance of "Taking Action".

Taking action to raise awareness about cancer, Merck Turkey employees supported the Cancer Warriors Association's volunteering activity. First, they received information from Oncology Specialist Dr. Esat Namal about cancer prevention methods, common misconceptions and the importance of facing this disease and being courageous. Then, wearing t-shirts that said "I am brave and I will take action for cancer awareness", they distributed informative brochures at a shopping mall to draw attention to the burden this disease places on humanity and the world. The distributed brochures emphasized the importance of raising cancer awareness for becoming informed, informing others and living a healthy life with the following messages: I AM BRAVE AND I WILL
