Lignite Production Rises in March

Turkey's Statistics Institute (TÜİK) released solid fuel statistics for March. According to the data released, lignite production increased 18.4 percent compared to the previous month in March. According to the figures, lignite production in March reached 7,363,815 tons. According to the announced figures, lignite production in March increased 18.4 percent compared to the previous month and 33.6 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. Production-to-Delivery Coverage Ratio Highest in Lignite In March, the production-to-delivery coverage ratio was highest in lignite. The March production-to-delivery coverage ratio in lignite was recorded at 98.5 percent. This ratio was calculated at 86.2 percent in bituminous coal coke and 5.9 percent in bituminous coal. Bituminous coal production reached 135,233 tons in March. Saleable bituminous coal production increased 21.6 percent compared to the previous month and 11.9 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. Saleable bituminous coal coke production reached 394,025 tons in March and increased 11.2 percent compared to the previous month and 8.2 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.

2,487,225 Tons of Bituminous Coal Imported

In March, 2,487,225 tons of bituminous coal were imported. Bituminous coal imports increased 5.3 percent in March compared to the previous month, while declining 16.5 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. This value was recorded at 86.2 percent in bituminous coal coke and 5.9 percent in bituminous coal.

Lignite Deliveries Predominantly to Thermal Power Plants

Bituminous coal and lignite deliveries were predominantly to thermal power plants. When examining the distribution of solid fuels by delivery destinations, in March 63.2 percent of bituminous coal deliveries went to thermal power plants, 15.4 percent to coke facilities, 9.1 percent to industries excluding iron-steel, while 84.8 percent of lignite deliveries went to thermal power plants and 10.5 percent to industries excluding iron-steel. For bituminous coal coke, the largest delivery was 93.8 percent to the iron-steel industry.
