Mars Logistics Delivers Sustainable Growth

Sustainable Growth at Mars Logistics Mars Logistics, one of Turkey's leading logistics companies, continues its sustainable growth trajectory, closing 2022 with EUR 515 million in turnover and 29% growth in euro terms. Founded in 1989, Mars Logistics serves all logistics services to its customers in an integrated manner through 2,344 employees and a total of 38 branches and warehouses domestically and internationally. Mars Logistics Board Chairman Garip Sahillioğlu stated in his remarks that they will close 2022 with EUR 515 million in turnover and 29% growth, saying: "We targeted 10% growth in 2022, and by year-end we achieved 29% growth, exceeding our target. Our target for 2023 is 12% growth." Sahillioğlu, noting that they serve approximately 8,000 companies annually across all sectors, including around 500 in the automotive sector and 2,000 in textiles, stated that their growth strategies domestically and internationally will continue.

Investments to continue in 2023

Mars Logistics, operating with one of Turkey's youngest and largest fleets of 4,000 company-owned vehicles and providing full and partial import-export road transport for key foreign trade sectors including automotive, textiles, retail, construction, cosmetics and energy, will continue fleet investments in 2023. In addition to the EUR 60 million fleet investment made last year, the company plans to invest approximately EUR 30 million in 2023. Having added 90 company-owned wagons to its fleet in 2022, Mars Logistics holds the distinction of being the first company to export to Europe using company-owned wagons manufactured and registered in Turkey. Sahillioğlu stated that they aim to increase their company-owned wagon fleet to 180 in 2023, will increase weekly train trips between Trieste–Halkalı–Europe to 42, and plan to add new routes for rail transport.

Focus on sustainability

Sahillioğlu, stating "Through our sustainable transport mode investments and our intermodal and rail transport operations, we achieved 61% emission savings compared to the previous year and prevented emissions equivalent to 1.6 million trees," emphasized that green logistics and sustainability work will continue. Mentioning the Hadımköy Logistics Center Rooftop Solar Power Plant project, Sahillioğlu said, "Sustainability is one of our primary focus areas. We operate with nature-respecting business practices in both transport modes and every area within the company. Within this scope, in addition to our waste management activities, rainwater harvesting and paperless office portals, through the Hadımköy Logistics Center Rooftop Solar Power Plant project implemented in previous years, we generated more energy than Mars's all domestic facilities consumed. With the electricity produced, we achieved emission savings of 1,472 tons CO2e in 2021 and 1,516 tons CO2e in 2022." Noting that they published their Corporate Sustainability Manifesto in 2022, Sahillioğlu stated that the work conducted within this scope and renewable energy investments will continue in 2023 and beyond, and indicated a 70% increase compared to the previous year in the number of customers for whom they regularly calculate and report carbon emissions. In 2023, Mars will transition to net-zero emission work equipment in logistics warehouses through renewed lithium-ion battery-powered work machines and electrical equipment within the scope of the "Work Equipment Renovation Project," utilizing generated renewable energy. The company will also release its Sustainability Report this year and obtain ISO 50001 Energy Management System certification. Sahillioğlu stated that they opened a Teknopark office in 2022 to further expand R&D work, emphasizing that they will increase the programs and projects they develop in 2023.

32% increase in employee count

Mars Logistics increased its employee count by 32% in 2022 and plans to increase this by 10% in 2023. In addition to the hybrid work system that began in 2020, Mars Logistics introduced flexible work arrangements in 2022 to ensure work-life balance for employees, and this human-centered work system will continue in 2023.

Future truck drivers continue to be trained at Mars through the Driver Academy

The Mars Driver Academy, launched in 2021 and open to young people interested in truck driving but lacking necessary training and certifications, welcomed 149 participants in 2022. The Academy will continue in 2023. Sahillioğlu stated, "We continue to champion gender equality in the Mars Driver Academy as in every area of Mars, accepting all male and female candidates to our academy."
