L'Oréal Turkey Marks Meaningful Event L'Oréal Turkey signed off on a meaningful event with the voluntary participation of its employees. On Citizen Day, where activities were held for the benefit of civil society organizations, some 350 L'Oréal Turkey employees joined forces for Turkey Spinal Cord Paralysis Association (TOFD), Koruncuk Turkey Foundation for Children in Need of Protection, and Hope for Children with Cancer Foundation (KAÇUV). On Citizen Day, a social responsibility and volunteering project, approximately 350 L'Oréal Turkey employees volunteered in activities organized for the benefit of civil society organizations. Volunteer L'Oréal Turkey employees came together throughout the day to support these civil society organizations by carrying out wheelchair manufacturing activities for Turkey Spinal Cord Paralysis Association (TOFD), bicycle manufacturing for Koruncuk Turkey Foundation for Children in Need of Protection, and toy painting activities for Hope for Children with Cancer Foundation (KAÇUV). Since 2010, Citizen Day has seen L'Oréal employees from all over the world dedicate one full day each year to supporting non-profit social or environmental organizations. Turkey's organization is among the countries within the L'Oréal Group that most actively supports this program.
Volunteer Assistance Activities Conducted in One Day Aimed at Reaching Over 1,000 People
The wheelchairs, bicycles and toys produced by L'Oréal Turkey employees on Citizen Day were distributed through civil society organizations to people and children in need. Activities carried out in one day are aimed at reaching over 1,000 people, primarily 255 children in need.
"We Work to Create Beauty That Moves the World"
Speaking at the event, L'Oréal Turkey General Manager Sinem Sandıkçı Gökçen said: "Citizen Day is a very meaningful day on which we demonstrate our social responsibility awareness by saying 'we all have a duty to fulfill.' We have a long history and strong culture of voluntary employee initiatives worldwide. Citizen Day, like our other social responsibility projects, falls under the 'Communities' pillar of our L'Oréal For The Future sustainability program, meaning sustainability and social responsibility are actually two complementary concepts for us. Having a positive impact on communities and supporting disadvantaged groups is a great source of pride and a priority for all our employees everywhere in the world. We also implement this in our country every year in the best way and giving it proper due. Because we believe in the power of beauty to change lives and we work to 'create beauty that moves the world," Sandıkçı Gökçen said. Sinem Sandıkçı Gökçen, noting that they prioritize implementing solidarity programs within their 'Diversity, Equality and Inclusion' approach and their sustainability and social responsibility commitments, stated: Unfortunately, some 2,500 people in our country become spinal cord paralysis patients annually due to traffic accidents, health problems and other reasons. An estimated 150,000 spinal cord paralysis patients are believed to live in Turkey, and 90 percent of these people have to live dependent on wheelchairs and on another person. In this sense, this is an important issue for our country and we try to provide support as best we can. Moreover, while there were 515 children with 510 foster families in 2002, in 2019, 7,259 children in need of protection took a new step in life with 5,967 foster families. We provide voluntary support to Koruncuk Foundation to serve a society where children, regardless of their socio-economic conditions, have access to their rights, grow up with love and safety, continue their education uninterruptedly and create added value. On the other hand, in developed countries, one in every 900 adults has had and survived childhood cancer. Two to four percent of cancers that develop worldwide each year occur in the age group under 19. Every year, 350,000 children worldwide, and approximately 3,500 children in our country, receive new diagnoses and undergo cancer treatment, meaning approximately one child in our country is diagnosed with cancer every 3 hours. Unfortunately, this figure reaches 5,000 with relapsed cases. We work together to create a positive impact for our children with cancer," Sandıkçı Gökçen said.
