Krohne Introduces New Solutions for Pipeline Management
Krohne is introducing new solutions for pipeline operators to meet increasing operational, environmental and regulatory requirements in pipeline management.
In this context, PipePatrol is a modular software package that enables monitoring and protection of short or long-distance pipelines carrying oil, gas, water or chemical fluids under all operating conditions. PipePatrol can be selected in different configurations:
Eight modules encompassing leak detection, theft detection, stress monitoring, line break detection, tightness monitoring, batch tracking and predictive modelling modules.
Modules can be used individually or in combination. Optionally, they can be combined with a wide range of instrumentation, cybersecurity and field data collection systems.
With over 30 years of experience in pipeline applications, Krohne provides engineering, operation and maintenance services to support pipeline management during certification or theft analysis.
This modularity gives pipeline operators the opportunity to achieve optimal results in a cost-effective manner while complying with regulatory requirements and maintaining safety.
PipePatrol E-RTTM (Extended Real-Time Transient Model) based leak detection system is used in more than 350 pipelines worldwide, providing leak detection and localization in liquid and gas flows. The theft detection module, developed to rapidly and reliably identify and localize unauthorized and illegal fluid discharges, is complemented by a tightness monitoring module developed to detect small leaks. In addition, it can be used with a line-end detection module to provide instantaneous detection of pipeline ruptures. This module uses an identification sequence for automatic and emergency closure of the line in case of line break. On the other hand, the batch tracking module enables batch and interface tracking in multi-fluid pipelines, the stress monitoring module enables evaluation and documentation of stresses during the line's operating life, and operational modules enable tracking of line service processes. Additionally, with the predictive modelling module, potential problems such as low flow or pressure drop can be identified for a certain prediction period (for example, 24 hours). The offline simulation feature in this module can be used to determine corrective measures to be taken and for future optimized operation planning. In addition, with the pump monitoring module, basic mechanical, electrical and hydrodynamic measurement results can be monitored, and therefore maintenance planning and higher system availability are ensured. PipePatrol complies with international standards such as API RP 1130/1149/1175, TRFL, 49 CFR 195, CSA Z662 and SS 512. It also complies with company-specific standards such as Shell DEP 31.40.60.11-Gen., Kuwait Petroleum Corporation KOC-MP-039, DOW Global LDS Standards and Saudi Aramco SAES-Z003.
