Chemical Sector Faces No Barriers in Exports

İKMİB Chairman Adil Pelister said that the chemical industry has the power to turn crisis into opportunity while increasing competitiveness and efficiency. Providing employment to 300,000 people and The chemical industry, which is one of five sectors that accounts for more than half of Turkey's exports, has managed to reach USD 9.914 billion in export figures in the first seven months of 2018 by overcoming obstacles facing global trade in recent times. The chemical sector, which increased its exports by 24.25 percent in July compared to the previous year and drew attention as the third largest exporting sector, is preparing to open up to new international markets under the International Chemical Trade Fairs TURKCHEM 2018, comprising ChemShow Eurasia, ChemLab Eurasia and ChemTech Eurasia, to be held at Istanbul Expo Centre between 8-10 November. Noting that the International Chemical Trade Fairs TURKCHEM 2018, held every two years, is preparing to provide a more productive fair experience to participants and visitors with its new concept, Artkim Fairs General Director Cengiz YAMAN stated, "TURKCHEM 2018 is the most comprehensive chemical platform in Turkey and the EMEA Region. This year we will bring together 300 direct participants from 20 countries with over 1,000 companies and company representatives and over 12,000 professional visitors from 70 countries under one roof for 3 days. While offering export opportunities to our participants and visitors, we will host events that draw attention to the latest innovations and challenges in the chemical sector."

While the world's total foreign trade volume is at approximately 16 trillion, the chemical sector accounts for 25 percent of global trade volume with 4 trillion dollars. In 2017, the chemical industry, which is the 3rd sector with the highest exports in Turkey at USD 16.1 billion, accounts for 10 percent of the country's total trade volume of USD 160 billion. Istanbul Chemical Substances and Products Exporters Association (İKMİB) Chairman Adil Pelister, who pointed out that Turkey has significant growth potential to increase its share in global chemical trade, and that high value-added products must be produced to achieve the desired growth and therefore technological developments and financing in production must be emphasized, evaluated recent developments with the United States. Pelister said "Rules are changing in global trade and the pieces are being redistributed. In July 2018, compared to July 2017, we achieved the highest exports to the United States with a record increase of 173.18 percent, reaching USD 171 million 424 thousand. This was our highest export figure to the United States in the last 5 years. As a sector, we believe the tension recently experienced with the United States will be resolved with common sense in the shortest time."

Our chemical sector managed to reach USD 9.914 billion in export figures in the first seven months of the year. In July 2018, we increased our exports by 24.25 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached USD 1 billion 482 million in monthly export figures."
