ISKI Launches TRY 2 Billion Investment
İSKİ, the long-standing İBB affiliate, is implementing a project that will put an end to the mixing of wastewater from the Riva Stream into the Black Sea, with a current cost of TRY 1,980,000,000. The TBM machines that will bore the project's tunnels were lowered to the construction site in a ceremony.

"Wastewater from Riva Stream Will Not Reach the Black Sea"
Drawing attention to the fact that an important step is being taken to solve environmental, marine and stream pollution problems resulting from wastewater through the Beykoz–Çekmeköy Districts Riva Wastewater Tunnels that are beginning to be manufactured, İBB Vice-Governor Nuri Aslan shared the following information:
"Wastewater flowing openly from the Örnekköy, Zerzevratçı, Mahmutşevketpaşa, Ali Bahadır and Riva neighborhoods of our Beykoz district and from the Reşadiye neighborhood of Çekmeköy district into Riva Stream causes environmental pollution; it negatively affects the health, living standards of our Istanbul family, and the stream and marine ecosystem. This wastewater reaches the Black Sea from Riva Stream and also threatens the water quality of beaches. It carries together odor, visual pollution and health risks to the public. Through the construction of the Mahmut Şevket Paşa Wastewater Tunnel, Riva Wastewater Tunnel and Reşadiye Wastewater Tunnel, wastewater collected from the Riva Wastewater Basin in Beykoz and Çekmeköy districts will be conveyed to the planned Riva Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Facility. In this way, we will prevent wastewater from Beykoz and Çekmeköy districts from reaching Riva Stream and then the Black Sea, and we will ensure environmental health and safety in the region."

"Our excavations at the Mahmut Şevket Paşa Wastewater Tunnel have commenced. Manufacturing works are continuing in the area near Mahmut Şevket Paşa Cemetery. For the Reşadiye Wastewater Tunnel excavation, we will use advanced technology tunnel boring machines. The machine that we lowered underground today and started operations with will complete its work in a short time. As Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, we are continuing our investments uninterruptedly and continuing to serve our people. When we complete this investment with a current cost of TRY 1,980 million, we will have implemented a project that is very important for both environmental cleanliness and public health in our Beykoz and Çekmeköy districts."
