IMCD Opens the Doors of Science to Children with Bilim Ateşböceği Truck and Permanent Science Classrooms

IMCD Group, one of the world's leading partners in the distribution and formulation of specialty chemicals and ingredients, has expanded its Science Firefly Truck project, carried out in cooperation with the Turkish Education Volunteers Foundation (TEGV), in Eskişehir. While continuing to reach children with its mobile science truck, IMCD also launched a permanent science classroom project in the city, providing children with a sustainable learning environment that can be used by generations to come.
IMCD Group, one of the world's leading partners in the distribution and formulation of specialty chemicals and components, has expanded its Science Firefly Mobile project, conducted in cooperation with Turkey Education Volunteers Foundation (TEGV), in Eskişehir. While IMCD continues to reach children with the mobile science unit, it has also implemented a permanent science classroom project in the city, providing children with a sustainable learning environment they can use for generations.
Within the scope of the project successfully implemented since 2022, more than 4,000 children have been reached to date. IMCD aims to foster a love of science in children at an early age and develop scientific thinking skills in line with its goal of "equal opportunity in education."
Science Passion Instilled in 4,000 Children
The project, conducted under the motto "Creating a World of Opportunity," has introduced thousands of children to science in the Marmara, Aegean, Southeast Anatolia, Black Sea and Central Anatolia regions over four years. Children discovered information they had seen in books through hands-on experiments, and had the opportunity to realize the connection between science and daily life.
Sustainable Contribution Through Permanent Science Classrooms
As of 2024, IMCD has expanded the project by converting unused rooms into science classrooms in schools without laboratories. While the first science classroom was opened in Istanbul Balat, the second permanent classroom was put into service this year in Eskişehir, coinciding with the Science Firefly Mobile visit.
IMCD volunteer employees played an active role in every stage of the process, from furniture installation, painting, equipment procurement and decoration to conducting experiments. Children experienced the excitement of learning and discovery by conducting scientific experiments for the first time in their lives.
Zakuto: "We are opening the doors to the magical world of science"
Aylin Zakuto, General Director of IMCD Turkey, made the following statement about the project:
"Ensuring equal opportunity in education and enabling every child to access science forms the basis of IMCD's social responsibility vision. With our Science Firefly Mobile project, which we took on in 2022, we have reached more than 4,000 children to date. Today, in Eskişehir, with both our mobile unit and the opening of our permanent science classroom, we take pride in advancing this mission further. Every experiment we conduct with children increases their enthusiasm for science. Our aim is to open a door in their minds to the magical world of science and contribute to nurturing the scientists of the future."
