Ankara Hosted the Heart of Genetics

Intergen Genetic Rare Diseases Diagnosis and Research Center, celebrating its 25th anniversary, hosted world scientists in Ankara.

Intergen, which has signed important collaborations in genetic science, aims to share its accumulated knowledge on genetics and rare diseases through this international event and open new horizons in health tourism. The event featured a two-day symposium and training programs with 45 scientists from 10 different countries.

Expanding the Boundaries of Genetic Science

Prof. Dr. Serdar Ceylaner, Chairman of Intergen Board of Directors, stated in his speech at the event: "Work on rare diseases requires international collaboration. Since many countries lack sufficient genetic infrastructure, Turkey's advancement in this field presents a major opportunity. As Intergen, we serve many countries in both clinical evaluation and genetic testing, and through these collaborations we are expanding the boundaries of genetic science."

Dr. Gülay Ceylaner, Member of Intergen Board of Directors, stated that at the center established in 1999, they conduct extensive genetic testing on rare and undiagnosed diseases to plan patient diagnosis and treatment. Gülay Ceylaner noted that by sharing their 25 years of experience with this symposium with international partners, they have both contributed to Turkey's genetic science and increased their health tourism potential.

We Perform All Genetic Tests In-House

In his speech, Ceylaner stated: "As an R&D center certified by the Ministry of Industry, we perform all genetic tests in our own laboratory using kits we have designed. Our goal is for our country to reach an even stronger position in health tourism and to help more patients benefit from the opportunities offered by genetic science."

Ceylaner, noting that they have been working intensively on rare diseases, which has been identified as a priority area particularly by Europe and America for the last 15 years, stated that for the past 20 years they have not sent sample specimens abroad and perform all tests in their own laboratories.

Ceylaner, expressing that at the center where 160 people work, they plan these studies with 7 medical doctors and numerous scientists with degrees in genetics and biology, continued his speech as follows: "To increase our exports even further this year as we celebrate our 25th anniversary, we wanted to strengthen our celebrations with a symposium explaining 'rare disease flags' that would help in diagnosing rare diseases. For this reason, we invited 45 scientists from 10 different countries with whom we work together or wish to work together to our center and prepared a two-day training program. In these trainings, we shared our 25 years of experience and explained Intergen and the opportunities available in our country. We told our guests from Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Egypt, Pakistan, Macedonia, Georgia, Iraq, Iran, Jordan and Oman about what we have accomplished and what we will accomplish."
