With these investments, the company aims to launch production that will be the first of its kind in Turkey while also increasing domestic production of high value-added products.
Eti Bakır has begun preparations for two new investments totalling USD 220 million at its Mazıdağı Metal Recovery and Integrated Fertilizer Facilities in Mardin. Through these investments, the company aims to achieve first-time production in Turkey and increase domestic production of high-value-added products.
First cobalt product manufacturing in Turkey
As part of the investments, Eti Bakır will establish a cobalt compound production facility with a budget of USD 20 million. The facility will produce cobalt acetate, cobalt chloride and cobalt nitrate. While the majority of these products are planned for export, the investment is expected to create approximately 60 additional jobs.
Company officials state that cobalt currently recovered from pyrite at the Mazıdağı facility will be further processed through the new investment to be converted into high-value-added products.

USD 200 million iron pellet investment
Eti Bakır's second major investment will be iron pellet production. At the facility to be established with a USD 200 million investment, 350,000 tonnes of iron concentrate annually will be processed to produce iron pellets at 95 percent purity.
The facility, planned to be built on approximately 150,000 square metres, is expected to be completed within 3 years. All produced iron pellets are targeted for the domestic market.
Employment to reach 1,900
With the completion of both investments, the number of employees at the Mazıdağı facilities is expected to increase from 1,690 to 1,900.
Circular economy and value-added focus
Eti Bakır positions the Mazıdağı facility not merely as a production centre, but also as a strong example of the circular economy. The company aims to ensure that added value remains in Turkey through further processing of recovered metals and to reduce import dependence on products required by industry.
The planned investments are targeted to contribute to regional development and to fill a strategic gap in Turkey's economy.
