Awareness Sought During Disability Awareness Week

During Disability Awareness Week, which was adopted by UN resolution, the aim is to raise awareness about discrimination and challenges faced by people with disabilities in social life. With the support of Sabancı Vakfı, Tohum Otizm Vakfı and Istanbul Bilgi University Sociology and Education Studies Application and Research Center (SEÇBİR) are launching the "If Everyone Were the Same" call within this scope. During Disability Awareness Week on 10–16 May, attention will be drawn to the unity of differences. Within the framework of the "Equal Rights in Education: Together at School, Together in Life" project, social responsibility is expected. Individuals and institutions are invited to participate in the "If Everyone Were the Same" movement on 13 May by sharing content from their social media accounts using the #HerkesAynıOlsa hashtag, and to collectively understand that being different has value. The "Equal Rights in Education: Together at School, Together in Life" project aims for people with disabilities to participate equally in education and society. Within this scope, it is emphasized that being different is not specific to disability, that every individual has characteristics that distinguish them from others, and that this normalizes the state of "being different." The #HerkesAynıOlsa campaign, which draws attention to the fact that individuals' differences add value to the communities in which they live, aims for Sabancı Vakfı, Tohum Otizm Vakfı and SEÇBİR to describe disability as a form of difference. Within the scope of the campaign, on 13 May, individuals and institutions are expected to show their support by changing their social media account avatars to the #HerkesAynıOlsa logo and changing their usernames with the #HerkesAynıOlsa hashtag.
