Ege Kimya Achieves a First in Turkey
Ege Kimya Opens Nickel Sulphate Production Facility
Ege Kimya, with more than half a century of experience and a broad product portfolio serving as an intermediate material supplier to more than 10 sectors including detergents, ceramics, construction chemicals, rubber, automotive tyres, agriculture and paints, held the opening ceremony for its Nickel Sulphate Production Facility, which will produce for the chemical sector on 120 hectares of land.
This marks the first facility established for the metal plating sector and electric vehicle batteries.
The company also aims to establish a Nickel Sulphate Production Facility in Poland. The facility, with a capacity of 39,000 tonnes, will be built on 110 hectares of land.
Founded in 1955, Ege Kimya is one of Turkey's 10 largest integrated chemical facilities. Production began in Istanbul Kağıthane and continued there for many years.
In 1997, with limited space for expansion in Istanbul, 120 hectares of land were purchased in Adapazarı and numerous production facilities were relocated there.
The company employs over 450 staff across its Istanbul Kağıthane headquarters and Adapazarı facilities, with approximately 50% of sales going to more than 70 countries.
Ege Kimya is a founder of the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) Responsible Care Programme and holds ISO 9001 Quality Management System, ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, ISO 27001 Information Security Management System and ISO 22716 Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certifications.
Ege Kimya has 3 main product groups. The first, the Silicates Product Group, with a capacity of 480,000 tonnes, serves the precipitated silica, detergent, ceramics, welding electrode, foundry, agriculture, construction chemicals, textile, paper and mining sectors.
The second product group, the Metal-Based Chemicals Product Group, serves the paints, rubber, automotive tyres, composites and polyurethane sectors.
The third product group, the Joint Ventures Product Group, includes Egesil, a joint venture with Evonik, the chemical giant, operating under its roof since 2001 at the Adapazarı facilities with 51% ownership by Evonik and 49% by Ege Kimya, holding one of Europe's largest precipitated silica production capacities.
In addition, catalyst production based on nickel metal for Albemarle, one of the world's major catalyst manufacturers, and Construction Chemicals production under American Euclid Chemicals licence are carried out.
Beginning metal-based chemicals production in 1959, the company has over the years primarily carried out numerous cobalt, zinc and nickel metal-based production at the Adapazarı campus.
Ege Kimya today is Turkey's largest cobalt metal consumer and the largest metal carboxylate producer in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
The nickel sulphate facility, with a capacity of 2,500 tonnes, has the capacity to meet all of Turkey's metal plating sector's annual requirements.
Following the global trend toward electric vehicles, Ege Kimya decided to establish a nickel sulphate facility with a capacity of 39,000 tonnes in Poland.
120 hectares of land have been purchased in Stargard in northwestern Poland, and following a lengthy investment process, production in Poland is targeted to commence in the second quarter of 2024.
