The 38th DYO Art Awards Are Taking Place This Year

Applications have opened for the 38th edition of the DYO Art Awards, organised by Yaşar Education and Culture Foundation, which has played a major role in the development of Turkish painting. The competition, which stands as an example of Turkish private sector support for the arts, has a submission deadline of 15 December 2019.

Supporting the Arts Since 1967

The DYO Art Awards, now in its 38th edition, is one of the most important examples of Turkish private sector support for the arts from past to present, and the application process has begun. The submission deadline for the competition has been set as 15 December 2019, and applications will be made through the Foundation's website. The selection committee for the 38th DYO Art Awards will include prominent figures from the art, education and media sectors: Prof. Hayri Esmer, Prof. Fevzi Karakoç, Dr. Nazan Ölçer, Denizhan Özer, Prof. Dr. Burcu Pehlivanoğlu, Prof. Mümtaz Sağlam and İhsan Yılmaz. The preliminary selection will be conducted online by the Selection Committee on 18 December 2019. On 11 January 2020, the Selection Committee will convene for a second time to determine works that have passed the preliminary screening and whose originals have been submitted to the Foundation, identifying those worthy of awards and exhibition. The 38th DYO Art Awards are open to all artists aged 18-50, except for members of the Selection Committee and their first-degree relatives. Works in oil painting, acrylic or original print techniques will be accepted, and each artist may submit a maximum of three works. For the 38th DYO Art Awards, themed "Balance and Change", submitted works must not have previously participated in another competition, won awards, or been exhibited or published anywhere. In the 38th DYO Art Awards, where TRY 25,000 will be awarded equally to 4 works in the painting category and TRY 10,000 will be awarded equally to 2 works in the original print category, along with plaques, works deemed worthy of exhibition will be displayed in five provinces in 2020 and presented to art enthusiasts. Starting initially in Izmir and reaching only Aegean Region artists, the DYO Art Awards began to be organised nationwide from 1973 onwards and acquired an international dimension by 1999. Following the first competition in which 91 artists participated with 271 works, over the course to date 14,440 artists have participated with 24,214 works. While 205 works have received awards, 2,900 works have been deemed worthy of exhibition. In addition to state exhibitions, the DYO Art Awards, which also carries the characteristic of being an art event participated in to a large extent by young artist generations, has hosted works by many master painters who have made a name for themselves in Turkish painting, such as Adnan Çoker, Zahit Büyükişleyen, Mustafa Ayaz, Kadir Ata, Alaattin Aksoy, Cavit Atmaca, Cuma Ocaklı, Devrim Erbil, Ekrem Kahraman, Yalçın Gökçebağ and Mehmet Güler, and has increased its significance with each passing day in terms of both its participants and the quality of submitted works. Today, the competition has become a platform where not only valuable names are added to the art of painting, but also where current national and international developments, new trends and research in painting are evaluated.
